Wow!!! so let me try to understand what you are saying here. You are saying that PCB should have discredited his past achievements in T20 world cup for which it was decided on August 14th 2009 before the ball biting incident that he will be awarded the pride of performance.
So what’s next? Using your logic PCB shoud have also asked the ICC to change the results of all the T20 world cup games where Afridi’s performance resulted in Pakistan victory so that he is no more eligible for the pride of performance award. Or how about stripping Pakistan citizenship from him and declare him a traitor?
Chaloo let me ask you to explain this statement and why do you hink defending him is like defending Zardari. You are one of the most reasonable poster here on GS in my opinion and I’m sure you might be able to explain something here which I am missing, because defending someone like Zardari is the most idiotic thing anyone can do.
errr! he was the man of the match in the semi final and final of the T20 world cup and those who watched his performance could tell you that it looked like it was afridi versus the oppostion. C'mon a1 it wasn't expecting that from you.
Yes, he was the man but did he really deserve this award? I just think Yousuf deserved it more for his unbelievable consistent performances in 2006.
Now if Afridi wins us this years wc too, hell give him another one. :)

i m sure shoib akhtar deserves a medal too, pride of mega performance… in cricket and in bollywood.
When someone you want to honor has committed a wrong act then you need to rethink whether that person really deserved the ‘honor’. His achievement in WC was probably already rewarded in financial terms, ‘biggest civilian award’ must be restricted to those who didn’t committ a blunder/crime esp after being considered for the honor. On one hand PCB banned Younis Khan without an idiotic display like that of Afridi or Asif and on one hand he is honored. When I recommended an extended ban on Afridi one of the reasons was to send message to next generation that crimes don’t go un-noticed esp when you are representing your nation on a platform.

I know Zardari would be an extreme example but considering our political scene I couldn’t come up with a better example of someone who is a known corrupt and got nominated for a top position and got that position as well. Just like Afridi has served his ban Zardari also has spent considerable time in jail.
Of course there are greater differences too like Afridi has achieved much for Pakistan unlike Zardari but I only compared him for the crime record

I don't 'hate' Afridi, I hate his acts of committing stupid mistakes like pitch dance, ball-eating thinking that nobody is looking while in midst of hundreds of thousand of people and tens of cameras around. I sincerely hope that he doesn't make you eat your shorts by pulling some other idiotic stunt this time around, good luck to all.

And I feel sorry for people who think personalities are more important than the country. They are because of Pakistan and not the other way round and if they bring shame to that country than they should not be honoured. Value of the pride of performance has been devalued by giving it to cheats like Afridi.

My understanding is that the Pride of Performance award is given ever year for outstanding performance in various fields including sports. Can you think of any other outstanding performance related to sports in 2009? And even if there were I don't think they could have matched Afridi's efforts.

Why is it hard to understand that countries do announce awards to their heros but when it is found that they have done something wrong, they denounce it and take their decisions back. That is nothing but a symbol of accountability. And we have to set strong examples if we have to save cricket in Pakistan.

Yar my post which you have quoted was in response to A1's post where he said that Yousuf was more deserving than Afridi for that award. He was not talking about the ball biting incident, just saying that he didn't think Afridi deserved the award for his performance.

I dont know what you like in YK, but he is an embarrassment for quite sometime for cricket and country. His statements and his attitude towards the game is the disgrace I am mentioning to.
What has he actually done in the past two to three years other than being the captain of the team which won T20 WC. I dont remember any of manjor contributions to cricket for a long time.
I don’t like his antics, I am one of the biggiest criticof playing younis khan in Pakistan one day squad.
But I can’t understand how come a player who was sent by the same board for ODI’s against Australia ( a highly stupid decision) in response to the management’s SOS call, all of a sudden became a big nuisance?
Apparently he did something on the Australian tour due to which he was banned (or whatever it is). But then the reports are saying that he didn’t do anything during the Australian tour and it was supposedly his attitude in the past which lead to his ban. Really??? If that is the case why did PCB board send him to Australia? And why Ijaz Butt said this on November 12th after Younis gave away captaincy and withdrew from Kiwi Tour.
“We have a long-term plan in place,” Butt told Cricinfo, “and we will review that once we get together over the next few days to discuss this. Younis wanted a rest and we have given him that. But when he comes back we will most definitely consider him as an option for captaincy.”
C’mon yar we all have seen enough cricket and witness enough politics in Pakistan cricket to know that PCB dope heads have not idea what they have done. Since the time they have annoucned these bans/fines I can point out several situations where PCB looked totally totaly stupid like a bunch of dopey morons.
