Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal have been awarded category A contracts by the PCB for the calendar year 2012. Mohammad Sami, who had been picked in Pakistan’s teams in all three formats for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka after being sidelined for two years, has not received a contract.

The PCB’s new match fees

Category A: Tests - Pak Rs 385,000, ODIs - Rs 363,000, Twenty20s - Rs 275,000
Category B: Tests - Rs 330,000, ODIs - Rs 275,000,Twenty20s - Rs 220,000
Category C: Tests - Rs 275,000, ODIs - Rs 220,000,Twenty20s - Rs 165,000

Afridi had not figured in last year’s list of central contracts as he was in the middle of a spat with the PCB then. Umar Akmal has been moved up from category B.
There are no other changes to the top category: Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman are the others in the premier bracket.
Shoaib Malik, who was not given a contract last year, has been awarded a category B contract, while Abdul Razzaq, who was in the second bracket last year, has been cut from the list. Fast bowler Aizaz Cheema has made the biggest jump, moving from the stipend category up to category B.
Other players who were selected for Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in June and July but have missed out on contracts are Yasir Arafat and Khan Research Laboratories fast bowler Rahat Ali. Quetta’s Bismillah Khan, who was recently banned for a year following a fight during a Grade Two match, has been included in the stipend category.
In all, 21 players have been given full-fledged contracts, while 21 players have been placed in the stipend category. On Friday, the PCB had announced an increase of 25% in the retainer for centrally contracted players, and an increase of 10% in match fees.
That means category A players will now receive a retainer of 312,500 Pakistan rupees (US$3400 approx), up from Rs 250,000 last year. Category B players will receive Rs 218,750 (up from Rs 175,000), and category C Rs 125,000 (up from Rs 100,000). Players in the stipend category will receive Rs 62,500 (up from Rs 50,000).

Category A: Tests - Pak Rs 385,000, ODIs - Rs 363,000, Twenty20s - Rs 275,000

Does it mean if you are good enough to play in all three formats, you earn (385+363+275k) or Rs 1 million/month as a player. That is very good by PCB standards

I would however have a special category, Category Z minus for the following players

Imran Farhat, Mohammad Sami, Faisal Iqbal, Sohail Tanvir & Wahab Riaz

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

errr. wrong thread

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Again we see one or two mind numbing decisions.

What has Shoaib Malik done recently to deserve a B contract? Why are Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal even getting contracts of any kind? Why is Azhar Ali ranked at the same level as Malik?

Why has Fawad Alam not even been given a stipend contract?

Why is Junaid Khan ranked higher than Sarfraz Ahmed, Adnan Akmal and Hammad Azam

Umar Akmal should also be in category B IMO

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Even Shahid Afridi does not deserve Category A on the basis that he doesn't play tests any more

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Category A: Tests - Pak Rs 385,000, ODIs - Rs 363,000, Twenty20s - Rs 275,000

couldn’t agree more with the following comment

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Umar Akmal has done really well in the ODI's despite not having an ideal batting position. Same goes for him in test cricket. He is not only one of the brightest if not the brightest talent in Pakistan but also one of the finest new talents on world stage. His batting position in test matches (if he gets picked) is 6 or 7. He is way too good of a players to be playing at that position. Same goes for his position in ODI's. He is sent so far down the order that most of the time he has to hit out or get out and yet he has performed reasonably well and I think he deserves his category "A" contract.

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Afridi has been instrumental in ODI's lately and on that basis alone he deserves his category "A" contract.

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

^ Fair comment

One important point to note is that Sami has not been given a contract even though he has been selected in all three formats for the forthcoming Sri Lanka tour i.e. contracts don't necessarily determine selection.

It also proves that PCB is wasting money on crap players such as Shoaib Malik, Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal

Re: Afridi, Umar Akmal given top PCB contracts

Players still not happy!!!

The pay hike announced by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the central contracts and match fees has not been received well by many of the leading national team players.

Sources said that captain Misbah-ul-Haq, senior batsman Younis Khan and T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez had already held discussions on the issue soon after the new central contracts and retainers were announced on Friday night

“Some of the players are not happy with the 25 per cent and 10 per cent hikes as they feel keeping in mind the rising inflation they deserved a better deal,” one source close to the players said.

“The players are also grumbling that the board as it is took three years to give a pay raise and even now it is not enough for them,” one source said.

The PCB announced the list of players who have been given central contracts for the year 2012 after a delay of four months as the last contracts had expired in December last year.

One reliable source confirmed that most of the players who are leaving on the tour to Sri Lanka early on Monday morning have refused to sign the contracts.

“The players feel that the board should have given them more time to have the contracts vetted by their legal advisors and it is not possible for the players to sign the contracts at such short notice,” the source said.

Pakistan team manager, Naved Cheema said that there was no deadline set by the board for the players to sign the

contracts.

“The longer the players take to sign the contracts and return them back to the board their payments will be delayed,” Cheema said.

Interestingly match and tour fees, central contract retainer payments and other bonus payments to the players have been held up for the last four months by the board for various reasons.

The function, held to honour the Pakistan team that won the Asia Cup in March in Bangladesh, also turned sour when Misbah, Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal all reportedly left the function early as they were not happy with comments passed on some players by the programme host, well known writer and compere, Anwar Maqsood and later by a bunch of comedians.

The players believed they were being unnecessarily ridiculed at the function and at one stage when Misbah was called on stage he told Anwar Maqsood that it seemed as if the players had come to the function after losing matches and not winning matches.
