Star cricketer Shahid Afridi has crossed the milestone of 300 sixes in one day internationals after he hit three massive sixes against South Africa in a match at Bloemfontein, Pakistan beaten by 125 runs.
He hit a massive six, his 300th, way clear of Sanath Jayasuriya’s 270. To put things into perspective, Jayasuriya’s 270 sixes had taken him 433 innings; Afridi’s 300 has taken him 324. The only ones among the current players with 150 or more sixes are Chris Gayle (193) and MS Dhoni (152).
Tsotsobe attempted a yorker to Afridi; it turned out to be a low full-toss; Afridi simply smashed it over Tsotsobe’s head, and it crashed into the fence, one-bounce.
Two balls later, Tsotsobe attempted a slower ball; Afridi picked it up; he hit over mid-wicket; the ball landed in the car-park. This was the Afridi of the old! Had he timed it slightly better, it might even have gone out of Bloemfontein.
Way to go Shahid Afridi! It was a treat to watch him bat yesterday. He came like a breath of fresh air in Pakistan’s failure with the bat. I am sure Pakistan will do better in the next four games. Good Luck Team Pakistan!
Saw the video clip of the six...yep that was vintage afridi...a stroke from days of yore....
lovely shot indeed....smooth clean hit full of power....amazing...I wish I could turn it into a flash avatar....probably not a lot of those left in Afridi himself...:D
Got to watch Afridi innings today against SA. That actually reminded me of Old Afridi. I really hope..he keeps up with his performance like this insha'Allah!
Afridi batted superbly - some of the those sixes were massive esp. his 7th - but **the one criticism of him is that he does not finish games when he has the opportunity. **Having done all the hard work and having batted so well to bring Pakistan right back in the game, Afridi's shot selection could have been better. He had already hit Tsotsobe for two fours in that over (#36) but once again he just could not resist going for a lofted shot and holed out in the deep. It was a low full toss outside off which Afridi mistakenly thought was above waist height. It was almost a premeditated shot as he was down the wicket and reaching forward. There were still plenty of overs left, the target was now reachable and all it required was some sensible batting. If he had stayed till the 45th over, Pakistan would have won the game. Having got a second chance (courtesy of a no ball), Afridi should have finished the game. I mean how often does it happen in a one-day game. You can't hit a boundary off every ball and if Afridi could be more SELECTIVE with his shots he will finish more games - consistently. It's all psychological for Afridi. He can do it if he applies his mind to it.
I bet this record is here to stay for a long time. He has no competition what so ever.
yes i don't see any cricket board to carry on playing a failure for 16 long years and he is the guy who had always slogged at the very first ball. No other joker will get that many opportunities so his record will always be safe.
