All-rounder Shahid Afridi has been added to the Pakistan team for the third Test against Australia, starting in Sharjah from Saturday.

He will replace Abdul Razzaq who has been ruled out for six weeks after fracturing his left wrist during the second Test in which Pakistan were bowled out for their lowest scores of 59 and 53 inside two days.

Initially, Yousuf Youhana was expected to beef up the team but he was ruled out as he failed to recover from a shoulder injury sustained during a triangular tournament in Tangiers, Morocco, in August.

Afridi, who has scored 780 runs in 14 Tests with two centuries and four half centuries besides taking 21 wickets, arrives on Tuesday to join the team.

“Shahid has been included as reinforcement after Razzaq was ruled out,” Pakistan coach Richard Pybus told Reuters on Monday.

“The team needed an experienced all-rounder and considering the conditions in Sharjah, it was a sensible thing to ask for Shahid as his inclusion would give the team another spin option,” Pybus said.

“Shahid’s inclusion will strengthen the team as he is an aggressive competitor,” the South African coach said.

On Youhana, Pybus said: "We were informed that he still has not fully recovered from the shoulder injury. We didn’t press for his inclusion because we want to make sure that he is fit for the long term.

“Considering the long South African tour ahead, it would be appropriate to consider him for that tour. It makes more sense,” Pybus said. Australia lead the three-Test series 2-0.

i dont know wat to say..... PCB is confused when it comes to team selection. first they say afridi is more of a one day game player and then they draft him into the test team. instead of getting a good solid bat into the team they have included a batsman who does not like staying on the wicket for more than 2 overs. this makes things even worse for our team. we already have openers making zeros and we draft an "all rounder" who has alot to learn about test cricket.

why aren't they playing hasan raza???????? he deserves a chance now that everyone has failed.

they should play this team

imran farhat
taufeeq umar
younis khan
hasan raza
faisal iqbal
shahid afridi
rashid latif
saqlain
danish
waqar
shoaib

dont expect them to win the test match but just to give the other youngsters a chance to play and prove themselves.

I think Hasan Raza will be played in place of Mizbah or Nazir, I prefer kicking out Nazir to play him.
So where will Afridi be fit?
Opener or middle order. He might do well against Shane Warne, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring him in the middle order, possibly 4th or 5th.

are we adding someone who is unable to play one day games with patience to play a game that "may" last 5 days? is Afridi capable of playing test matches?

I know his previous performance, but then again he scored a brilliant century in India and one against NZ, so experience is what we need rightnow.

we don't need IMRAN FARHAT...what has he done so far....if he has any talent we don't need it

Come on give him a chance, its not like we are kicking out a valuable to asset to our batting lineup, we have already loss the series, now we need to experiment with the squad to get a stronger batting lineup.

Master! i think Afridi is playing as an allrounder as he can bowl good legspin and his record is good against aussies! What if his batting is unpredctable, right now whole batting line-up is unpredictable!

dont tell me u ppl want kaneria in the team....
we have mohammad zahid and an all-rounder (naved-al-hassan) in the team....
why dont we conisder on of them and kick out kaneria as well....

we can always call him back to play against bdesh, zimbabwe or windies....
but not against any other team PLZ....

I still think he is a good bowler, you can't just expect someone to come in and take 5 or 6 wickets against a strong batting side, it takes time, even Saqlain wasn't that good when he started. Kaneria will be our main spinner after Saqlain so its really important to let him play in the big matches. I think he should be kept for 3rd test, Zahid is long gone and if he can't trouble Srilanka A batsman than what are the chances of him taking wickets against Australia.

I dont think kaneria will be much successful against good batting. He dont have that flight in his bowling which is very imp for a laggy. Also a leggy has to be attacking like shane warne or Qadir.

Inclusion of Afridi as an allrounder is understandible as he may get some wickets( if he do some good batting) . But I dont think he will be that effective against warne, may hit a few boundries but then will be eaten. They shud have included wasti or M.waseem. After all it is test cricket not one day. Look at the batting line up , all r attacking batsmen no one is a sloid player who can be rock solid at one end.

Imran farhat is also an attacking player who is short of temprament.

my team wud be....

Taufiq Umar
Shahid Afridi
Younis Khan
Faisal Iqbal
Hassan Raza
Rashid Latif +
Naveed-al-Hassan
Saqlain Mushtaq
Waqa Younis *
Mohammad Zahid
Shoaib Akhtar

12th man: Imran Nazir ;)

let us all not forget that with abdur razzaq out, we r a pacer short, so we need a paser in for him....

afridi is playing as an allrounder in place of abdur razzaq but will serve as an opener....

WE HAVE LOST THE DAMN SERIES......y does that always happen that we forget about the current series and start thinkin about the upcoming...

let us keep figers crossed

yes, he’s back :hula:
now we are going to lose within one day instead of two!

will it really make any difference kay now Afridi is also in???
but no doubt he is a natural talent, and i think Afriday first first 2 matches main bhi if played tu may be...may be...result khuch aur hoota.

look his popularity :D though he is father on a cute daughter now!
