Afridi hopes to mature in England 18/03/03
All-rounder will let his bat do the talking
A humble Shahid Afridi says he is looking forward to his time at Derbyshire, adding that he intends to use his time in England to help recapture his form and his place in the pakistan team.
Afridi who was not considered for selection for Pakistan’s trip to Sharjah because of disciplinary reasons added that in future he would keep his mouth shut and let his bat do the talking.
Speaking to BBC Online Afridi said, “I will let my bat do all the talking now. I intend to use my time with Derbyshire to prove my critics wrong and win back my place in the team.”
His suspension comes after he was found guilty of verbal abuse, stemming from an incident in the World cup game between Pakistan and India.
Reflecting on the world Cup - which saw Pakistan under-performing badly Afridi said, "I know my performances have been a big let-down for my supporters and fans.
"I also accept the PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board - who banned him] decision. I think the time has come for me to change my approach to the game and be more responsible.
“And I think the time I spend with Derbyshire will be a learning process for me to evolve into a more responsible player.”
Afridi is one of many Pakistani players who will be playing in England for the County season. Shoaib Akhtar has joined Hampshire as a replacement for Shane Warne, Middlesex have signed Abdul Razzaq, while Saqlain Mushtaq and Azhar Mahmood will both be based at Surrey. Former Test star Mushtaq Ahmed will be with Sussex.
Good to see him accepting that what he has done is wrong and he is definetly under performing. lets hope he matures and bats sensibly. Maybe this incident will knock some sense into him :k:
Lets hope he improves his batting very much after coming back from England, he has played in England for county cricket before but he never improved, this time he has a longer season to play cricket and he should improve.

true..he played well as long as he was playing for county...but when he came back...he was still the same. Maybe this time around he will make things turn out to be different.

*Shahid Afridi, just shut up and watch Andrew Symonds. The way this guy has evolved is very, very remarkable. Learn from him. People, That Is All.*

Andrew Symonds is a proper batsman with a full array of shots. Afridi is a front foot slogger plain and simple. I think the only way he has any chance of improving is if he makes a conscious decision to play no arial shots and then we'll see what sort of 'batsman' he really is.

*Agreed. But the way Andrew Symonds selected his shots in the beginning of his career was as frustrating as watching Shahid Afridi go out and looping an easy catch to mid-off every freakin' time. People, That Is All.*
