Why is Shahid Afridi in team? What is his performance? How did he stretch his career so long?
ISLAMABAD: Defeat against India has frustrated every Pakistan cricket fan. And on Tuesday the great Javed Miandad also joined the chorus with some very blunt views on captain Shahid Afridi.
India overcame a fiery spell from Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir to pummel their opponents by five wickets in a key Asia Cup T20 match in Mirpur, Bangladesh, on Feb 27.
Batting first, Pakistan were wrapped up for a humiliating 83 runs as they avoided their lowest T20 score by just 9 runs.
Miandad criticised the national side for its meek surrender but it was none other than the Pakistan skipper who came under his radar.
“How can you have a player who is not reliable. Afridi lost his place in the side a long time ago,” Miandad said while talking to a private news channel.
“How you can expect to win or make your cricket better when a player who has stopped being a reliable performer is your captain,” he added.
Miandad said that due to nepotism and favouritism, Pakistan’s domestic circuit was not producing quality cricketers.
Blaming the Pakistan Cricket Board for poor state of affairs, Miandad said: “Do they not know what is going on? Do they not notice what is happening to our cricket?”
Miandad said the selection committee and the players who do not perform should be sacked. “Many Pakistani players lacked cricket sense and did not have an aptitude for the game.”
He was of the view that the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) had not produced any talent for the national team. “I don’t see any player in the PSL who is so good that he can get a contract in the Big Bash or IPL,” he said.
Miandad, a former coach of the national team, said someone like Virat Kohli was successful in at least 70 to 80 per cent of the innings that he played, while in contrast Pakistani players were rarely consistent.
He said it was saddening to see Pakistan continuously losing to India and recalled the days when Green Shirts used to emerge victorious in most of the matches against the arch-rivals.

it's easy to criticize Afridi, but more **** needs to be given to the batsmen who failed.
Even the likes of Javed Miandad failed to make batting improvement when he was coach, and we can't live in the "sharjah chakka" the whole century, he needs to shut up and either do something about it or keep quiet. He offers no solutions other than to kick Afridi out.
okay so even if we kick Afridi out, it still does not solve the batting problem, why didn't they criticise Hafeez or Akmal or Anwar Ali the way they ridicule the captain.........i'm surprised at this. Afridi is not the only cause of failure here.
it's the mentality(tuk tuk, waste balls, dot balls), unable to handle pressure, and no technique/unskilled so-called batsmen.
Hafeez has so much "experience" but still fails everytime. Made few runs in PSL to make sure he becomes next captain and gets to play till next world cup

Batsmen are weak accepted but when you have a duffer of a captain than he takes all the responsibility. Lets look at this match. No grass on the pitch and everyone was saying it will take turn. What does our captain do, drop Nawaz and bring in another pacer Anwar Ali, even wahab would have been better. Despite failures he opens with khurram manzoor. Yea that is why he is being criticised and rightly so.
To ask a legend like Miandad to shut up just goes to show how much you know about cricket. He knew how to make runs, how to manipulate and get out of difficult positions. He was a gem.

Gujar ... It was Miandad who helped Afridi to complete his century against Indian... when he was coach... Since then how many centuries Afridi made....

It's not the defeat that we are angry about, it's the continuous lack of performance that fans are frustrated about. Defeat/victory happens in any game, but constant decline of quality is inexcusable

Do you have ANY person who can still hit with power that Afridi has, even at age 36? NO
Even if they take him out, don't expect the team to win. Professor Hafeez seems to be able to avoid all the criticism so far from everyone, the focus on Afridi only.
I don't see pak team winning against aus or india, or even nz. will remain last in group, sadly

Gujranwalay.... apki sui afridi par hi atki pari hia... Cricket main patience chiaye hota hia... har ball par chakka nahi lagta hia.... Afrdi is a man without patience... I also have doubt on his batting skill.

Afridi's batting was like this from beginning of his career. He is lucky enough to be part of team for so long. Of late he has improved his bowling and deserve to be part of the team on his bowling only. That too after many chances so take him like a bowler n he is okish.
We actually lost our main strength which was saeed ajmal n hafeez as a bowler. Hafeez specially when bowl well wax also performed better with bat . Now it need much more from him to be in the team solely on batting.
Our batting has always been worse though not like today but we had quality bowlers in both spin n fast dept. which we are lacking now. We most of the time win on our bowling. Though it is not correct to put pressure on bowlers all the time.
Afridi as captain cannot do magic however some of his decisions are always suspicious which he takes to keep him self as only visible spinner in the team.
