Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/story/522301.html
Shahid Afridi won’t be returning to Adelaide this summer, instead signing with the Melbourne Renegades for the Big Bash League. Afridi will be joined by his fellow Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaqas the two overseas players for the Renegades, who are based at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne’s Docklands and have now named 16 of their 18-man roster.
Afridi had played for South Australia in last year’s Big Bash but was keen to be teamed up with Razzaq, who has not yet made his domestic Twenty20 debut in Australia. Afridi told the Age the chance to join Razzaq in Melbourne was an “opportunity that I couldn’t turn down even though I had better money offers from other teams”.
The signings mean the Renegades have almost completed their recruitment, with only two playing positions remaining. They have also announced thatJames Brayshaw, the former South Australia batsman and now Melbourne media personality, will be the side’s chairman.
Meanwhile, the Hobart Hurricanes have also finalised their second overseas player, with the England batsman Owais Shah set to join the squad. The Hurricanes have also signed the Queensland fast bowler Luke Feldman, as well as the Tasmania pair of Ben Hilfenhaus and Nick Kruger.
The Sydney sides have failed to lock in two key New South Wales players, the offspinner Nathan Hauritz and the batsman Usman Khawaja. The Perth Scorchers have picked up Khawaja, while also signing the spinner Michael Beer, and Hauritz has followed the lead of his New South Wales captain Simon Katich and headed home for the Big Bash League. While the former Western Australia player Katich signed with the Perth Scorchers, Hauritz, who until 2005-06 was a Queensland player, will hook up with the Brisbane Heat under the coaching of Darren Lehmann.
“The opportunity to work with ‘Boof’ Lehmann and get the opportunity to come home and see the family over Christmas was too good to pass up,” Hauritz said. “Over the last few years spin bowling has taken the game on another course … I look forward to playing well for the Heat and taking out the championship later on.”

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Never heard of the Big Bash league - Is it a 20 overs game?

Maybe my imagination - I thought Afridid underutilized Razzaq in the world Cup - so I thoughht there was some bad blood between them. Looks like I was mistaken.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

I know Afridi is excited to Play with Razzaq, he should be. However is the feeling mutual, I guess Razzaq wouldn't mind playing in same team as long as Afridi isnt the Captain.

Good luck to both. I hope this teams make it to Champions league.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Good luck to both :k:

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Yeah it was a mistake there was nothing inbetween Afridi and Razzaq
Both are awesome

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

I feel notorious.

Define "awesome".

Thanks :)

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is interesting. But *what they hide is vital.

I might agree with you as far as Afridi is concerned. He has had too many wasted opportunities. With Razzaque, you need to be a little more generous. As a bowler, he played under the shadows of Wasim and Waqar for most of the time and as a batsman he came after the likes of Inzi, Yousaf and Yunis Khan. He might not have a great number of runs or wickets but his little innings down the order often won matches for Pakistan and his stingy bowling (later in his career) got wickets for the bowlers at the other end. And yes, he has been underutilized by most of Pakistani captains, probably because he doesn't have an imposing personality in dressing room.

Kapil Dev was India’s greatest fast bowler, their greatest fast-bowling allrounder.

If Kapil Dave was great then RAZZAQ AND AFRIDI are atleast awesome if not great.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Kapil’s batting was not great AT ALL. His bowling averages are under 30 while Razzak and Afridi are both early to mid 30s.. so I really dont get the comparison.

Eitherway, Kapil’s “greatness” (if any amount) was more so because of his WC winning captaincy and all roundership than any one particular skill. That’s just been my impression. I never saw him play so can’t vouch for it.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

What stats hide is VITAL? I disagree. Stats tell us a lot. Yep there might be stuff that they don't reveal but to claim that what they dont reveal is VITAL is a little much.

I agree about Razzak.. he has not achieved what he was capable of... specially in batting... due to politics.. or not enough exposure.. or not enough chances..... he could have been a yuvraj singh (WC winning man of the series) or a symonds.

Afridi is a different story. He has gotten plenty of chances. He has wasted plenty of chances. And worst of all.. he has brought shame to the legitimacy of Pak and World cricket in general with all the pitch scuffing ball eating. The Razzler would never do something like that.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

We cant compare an all rounder on bowling base only. We have to compare batting. Since Dev Never Played Two T20 and we r discussing T20 here's for the sake of Argument i will just Compare there ODI Performances.

What RAzzaq And Afridi has done with Bat, Dev Cant even come closer.
Devs 175 notout against Zimbabwe is the reason he is considered all rounder and his ODI batting avg is above 20.

If avg was everything in cricket, i dont think Tendulkar will make it to TOP 5.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

^ Disagree

Among batsmen who have played 100+ test matches, Tendulkar’s batting average of 56.94 is second only to Kallis’s 57.43

And among batsmen who have scored 8,000+ test runs, he is third behind Sobers (57.78) and Kallis

I know there are other test batsmen such as West Indian George Headley (aka Black Bradman) and South African Graeme Pollock who averaged 60+ with the bat but they both played a mere 20 odd tests. I am sure that their test averages would have fallen sharply had they played more test matches and/or had as long a test career as Sachin’s and it is therefore unfair to compare their stats with someone who has played 100 odd test matches, in Tendulkar’s case a mammoth 177 tests

Bradman ofcourse was an exception and I am sure that if he had gone on to play 100 odd test matches, he would have still averaged 80-90 with the bat!

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

As I said, I really cant vouch on Kapil because I did not watch him play. Comparing players from different eras is not usually a good idea anyway, context is everything.

Compare Afridi and Razzak to other modern allrounders and you will see that they are both decent all rounders, not "greats".

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Going by modern player ratings Shakib Al Hassan is better all rounder than KALLIS, no one said Afridi and Razzaq are greats. They are awesome.

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Of course they are greats ......Shakib doesnt come near to Afridi and Razzaq

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Na dude, Great is Imran khan, Waseem Akram, Viv richards, Glenn Mcgrath.... That category

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

I know yaar but im talking about the the current players of no one can match Wasim n Imran

Re: Afridi and Razzaq team up with Renegades

Well I guess I have a different understanding of the word "great"... According to the stats I showed you for Afridi and Razzak.. in my dictionary niether of them is a "great".
