Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir have been fined for their on-field altercation during the third ODI in Kanpur.
Roshan Mahanama, the match referee, fined Afridi 95% of his match fee while Gambhir’s fine was 65% of his fee, for breaching the ICC’s Code of Conduct.
The players were charged under two counts: “Conduct unbecoming to their status which could bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute” and “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play.”
The incident occurred when Afridi was bowling to Gambhir. A verbal spat followed after Gambhir hit Afridi for a four, and the next ball the players collided while Gambhir ran for a single. A heated argument followed and was brought to a halt only after on-field umpire Ian Gould’s intervention.
“Both players pleaded not guilty to the charges but even if the collision between them was viewed as an accident I still felt it was inappropriate,” Mahanama said. “On top of that, there was a build-up to that incident and then they stood toe-to-toe arguing in mid-pitch immediately afterwards.”
Opener Gautam Gambhir and Pakistan all-rounder Afridi have, meanwhile, been punished following a confrontation during the third match of the series.
Both were found guilty of “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play” and “conduct unbecoming to their status which could bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute.”
Afridi was given fines amounting to 95% of his match fee, with Gambhir’s fines at 65%.
**“It is not the sort of example that players should be setting at any time, least of all in a series as high-profile as this one,” said match referee Roshan Mahanama. **
“Physical contact is creeping into the game more and more and by handing down these punishments I want to get the message out to all players that it is unacceptable and must not happen.”
You are all wrong, it was afridi's fault, and he even apologized to Gambhir. He told this himself to Star News after the match. He was just pissed off cuz of the pak fielding.

Both guilty on precisely the same grounds. Both charged for the same offenses that involved no one else but these two. Both's conduct was an attempt of a deliberate physical interaction. Yet the amounts related to the fine are different for both. Any particular reason as to why?

Yes, Gambhir's 65% match fee is equal to Afridi's 95% match fee when converted to dollars.
LOL! Have u guys actually seen the dubbing of afridi's abuse on u tube? LMAO hehehe; i'd provide the link but its a too obscene to post; also read the comments below; its priceless.
Afridi should have been banned for 1 series...at least we could have used someone else instead of Afridi....but who else...Abdur Rehman and Rao both would have gotten the chance to play....well in that case its good he did not get a match ban.
