Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

An Indian News Channel, Times News Network is currently airing a footage taken, wherein Afridi is admitting that it is Common for bowlers to Tamper with the ball and he has done it often.

I do not know when this video was shot or in what circumstances Afridi made those comments, but I think Pakistan players should stop making comments that damages their standing in the current issue with ICC.

Has any one seen this Afridi Speak…

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

Afridi wasn’t even on the field… yesterday. :hehe: Indian’s got their head way up into their small intestine with this one.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

Yep! Everyone knows that Afridi was not in the field yesterday, however, what is disturbing is the admission that Ball Tampering is pretty common and he does it regularly.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

O those Indians, I love the aaj tak channel! They just love to tamper with their poor reputation. LOL

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

Probably he meant changing the condition by shining one side so as to allow reverse swing. Yes every one does it. Technically it is ball tampering but still legal. So what?

Afridi admits tampering
It’s the biggest story of this year from the world of cricket and adds another dimension to the on-going ball tampering row.

In an exclusive interview with TIMES NOW in Feb 2006, Pakistan all rounder Shahid Afridi admits that Pakistani players can’t do without tampering. This is the first time any player has made such an explosive admission and that too to a TV channel.

Q. Do you get the time to tamper with the ball?

**A **. We do not have that much time. Only few get it to do some bit of tampering with the ball. If the weather is dry and hot then you can get some help from the pitch while bowling. But in that also you have to “help” the ball yourself.

Q. Earlier, I remember the ball used to go straight from the wicket-keeper to Ijaz bhai at point?

**A. **Yeah, those who knew about tampering at that time, used to do it.

Q. They all used to have long nails also?

**A. **The kind of cricket that is going on, on these pitches, it’s death for the bowlers, if you don’t tamper.

Q. Do you feel bowlers get less advantage?

**A. **If any team does tamper with the ball, then I don’t think there’s anythnig wrong in that. It’s torture for the bowlers to bowl.

Q. Do you think the ICC should make ball tampering legal? The umpire checks you everytime if you try to do something?

**A. **They shouldn’t make it so official that team start doing it from the 3rd or 4th over itself. I don’t think any rule can make it official. But you should be allowed to do some tampering after the 30th or 40th over. The game and it’s rules are changing so this should also be allowed.

Q. So you can tamper the ball after the 30th over?

**A. **They should keep it to a limit.

Q. Should they change the ball?

**A. **In anycase, the ball is changed after the 35th over.

Q. Umpire Steve Bucknor always smells the ball to check whether there is anything on it ?

**A. **Some people put sweets or vaseline for it to shine. The gums and mints players eat are put on the ball to make it shine.

Q. Does it happen with mint?

**A. **Yes, it happens with mint also. Personally, I have never tried it with mint. But all these fast bowlers and fielders standing at mid-off use all this. The English players use it a lot.

:hehe:

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

big deal..mike atherton was caught tampering the ball on camera once.its common knowledge that ball tampering used to happen a lot before icc got more strict there were more cameras installed.mushtaq mohd. in his autobiography has explained how sarafaraz nawaz and co changed the condition of the ball to reverse it and win a test match against australia in australia.Abdul qadir has said it too that it used to happen a lot.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

another classic Afridi special. It was'nt very long ago when this idiot was caught on camera digging his heels into the wicket. Another example how Pakistan has allowed morons to survive without being punished.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

It is not fair to bash Afridi when he talked on this issue 6 months ago and probably in a different context.

Ball tempering by definition means altering the natural state of the ball. So by definition, keeping one side shiny and leaving other side to deteriorate for the purpose of reverse swing is also ball tempering.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

Afridi,at his brainless special.

Re: Afridi admits to Ball Tampering

You are right, I didn't pay attention to when and context the interview was taken. If this interview is being displayed nowadays it only shows that they have their own agenda of playing games.

Re: Ball Tempering Controversy-News and Articles

Pakistan star ball claim revealed

Afridi made the comments after a one-day series earlier this year

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi claimed ball tampering was the only way to achieve reverse swing in an interview earlier this year, it has been revealed.
The all-rounder made his comments following the team’s tour to India.
"If the weather is dry and hot then you can get some help from the pitch while bowling, but even then you have to help the ball yourself.
“If any team does tamper with the ball, I don’t think there’s anything wrong,” Afridi told the TimesNow website.
The publication of a transcript of the interview on Monday is bound to intensify the controversy surrounding the fourth Test between England and Pakistan at The Oval.
England were awarded five penalty runs during the fourth day’s play after the umpires ruled Pakistan had tampered with the ball.
It led to the game being awarded to England by forfeit after Pakistan initially failed to take the field following the tea interval in protest at the decision.
Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq was subsequently charged with bringing the game into disrepute and altering the condition of the ball because he is deemed responsible for the actions of the entire team.
Inzamam and team officials have categorically denied that anything untoward was done to the ball by any player.

In the interview, Afridi, who did not play at The Oval, claims other sides have also been guilty of ball tampering. And he believes the rules of the game should be changed to allow fielding sides to alter the condition of the ball. “You should be allowed to do some tampering after the 30th or 40th over. The game and its rules are changing, so this should also be allowed,” he said.
