Like someone said earlier, it has to do with one’s environment and the hardships they face. There was a study done in 2003 which found High rate of depression in African American women. The excerpts are below:

"Unlike their nondepressed peers, these women reported fewer economic assets and greater economic distress. Issues such as unemployment, low self-esteem and a low appraisal of their economic situation contributed to their depression.
“In addition to diet, depression and poverty represent significant risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes in African-American women,” Auslander notes. “Programs need to be developed to address the social and economic factors associated with depression experienced by African-American women at risk for type 2 diabetes.” SOURCE

But it is not enough to paint them all with the same brush. I know plenty of African American folks, both females and males, young and old, and they’re all very nice. Always humble and seem quite happy to say the least. So let us not stereotype.

We may need to dig a bit into history to see the hardships their ancestors had to face, and sacrificed so much for this nation, and they often feel they are dealt with unfairly despite all that, just as some of us sometimes feel like we’re wrongly accused or stereotyped. This is not a utopian society, and there are flaws but there’s much for African Americans to be proud of.
