Africa is never boring - Ethiopia versus ICU in Somalia ; Place bets now!!!

This should be an interesting one.

Ethiopia’s army is invading Somalia at the request of the Somali president. The Islamic Courts Union is vehemently opposed to this and is threatening to declare a formal jihad.

Ethiopia and Somalia are traditionally enemies and the Ethiopian invasion seems to be resulting in increased support for the ICU.

ICU troops are battle hardened and flushed with success; morale is bound to be high and will be even higher if a jihad is declared against the invading Christian army.

Ethiopian troops are marginally better equipped (with ageing miliatary equipment), but do have formal military training and can be significantly reinforced (Ethiopia has 100,000 soldiers).

The ICU is fighting on its home turf, and can probably count on extensive popular support if Somalis are asked to takes sides between them and the Ethiopians.

And with the world’s attention focused on the conflict between white-coloured people in the middle-east, no one will give a rat’s backside about a couple of thousand blacks butchering each other in Africa… yet again.

Re: Africa is never boring - Ethiopia versus ICU in Somalia ; Place bets now!!!

Re: Africa is never boring - Ethiopia versus ICU in Somalia ; Place bets now!!!

They won't allow UN peacekeepers MS, you think the problem lies with nations willing to commit troops to a peace keeping mission?

Just today the U.S. gave another $116 million to the African Union Mission in Sudan, that's a total of $366 million since 2004 the U.S. has given.

Re: Africa is never boring - Ethiopia versus ICU in Somalia ; Place bets now!!!

If the Ethiopian army starts getting the upper hand, the western nations will quietly sit by...If the ICU starts getting the upper hand, the wetsern nations will send in its forces as peacekeepers...

Win win situation...

JIHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!

May Allah grant victory to the Mujahideen in their battles and the war ahead. May He guide their aim, may He cut down their foes, and may He protect the Mujahideen from harm. May He grant eternal paradise and a place of honour near Him to do those who die fighting in His cause. And may He grant such a victory to the Mujahideen that they liberate our brothers in Islam who live in the province of Ogaden from Ethiopian rule.

Aameen.

The leader of Somalia’s Islamic fighters called on all Somalis Friday to wage holy war against Ethiopia, a day after Ethiopian troops rolled into Somalia to protect the weak U.N.-backed government the Islamic group has challenged for power.

Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, in a radio broadcast, said Ethiopia deployed troops to the government’s base in Baidoa, 150 miles northwest of Mogadishu, to bolster what he described as a puppet regime.

I am calling on the Somali people to wage a holy war against Ethiopians in Baidoa,'' said Aweys, who the U.S. government says has ties to al-Qaida. They came to protect a government which they set up to advance their interests.‘’

Residents of Baidoa reported seeing hundreds of Ethiopian troops, in uniform and in marked armored vehicles, entering Baidoa on Thursday and taking up positions around transitional President Abdullahi Yusuf’s compound. Ethiopian and Somali government officials have denied Ethiopian troops are in the country, though witnesses from five towns have reported seeing them.

Abdullahi Yusuf is in the pocket of Ethiopia,'' Aweys said on the radio, heard across the country. He’s been a servant of Ethiopia for a long time.‘’

Islamic militants had rallied people to condemn the presence of Ethiopians after Friday prayers.

Demonstrators in Mogadishu shouted anti-Ethiopian and anti-U.S. slogans as they marched in the capital, accompanied by dozens of Islamic militiamen and trucks mounted with heavy weapons.

We are against Ethiopian troops invading our country,'' read some of the banners carried by mostly male demonstrators. God is Great!‘’ shouted the protesters.

Eritrea and Ethiopia still have an unresolved territorial dispute, and Eritrea will hope to smash Ethiopia between the the hammer that is the Eritrean army and the anvil that is the ICU.
