Re: Afghans vs Marathas, the largest battle of 18th century
In that case marathas would have absorbed muslim states of awadh, rohailkhand, hyderabad and ,mysore. English were foreign colonials, were interested more in ruling the subcontinent to loot its resources, were interested in religious conflicts but Maratha emerged against Aurangzeb so were carrying particular hate for muslims from the beginning. The question arises why they didnt massacred their mulsim subjects? ........because they were not in position to do so neither it was their concern at that moment. But once they had conquered whole india, then might have followed the path of isabelle and Ferdinand of spain who decided to expel all Muslims after they conquered whole spain. Hindus saw indian muslims as products of foreign invasions and for marathas muslims were pain in the ass. Hazrat shah waliullah foresaw this thats why he invited ahamd shah abdali to nip the evil in the bud.
Another question arises. What if Ahmad shah abdali had installed himself as emperor of delhi or any other afghan on seat of delhi?. I read some where that najib ul daula gave suggestion of installing rohilla rule over delhi but abdali refused.
Is this your 10th grade analysis? You are basing a supposition that the Marathas would behave like the scoundrel and barbaric invaders from the Afghanistan area who raped the subcontinent. The marathas were secular for their times. The Afghans and Najib ud Daula killed Ibrahim Khan Gardi when he was performing the last rites of his master Sadashivrao Bhau. Abdali's soldiers took about 22,000 Hindu women and young children and brought them to their camps. The women were raped in the camp, many committed suicide because of constant rapes perpetrated on them. All of the prisoners were exchanged or sold as sex slaves in Afghanistan, transported on bullock carts, camels and elephants in bamboo cages. 22,000 was a huge number in those days. Who can even glorify such villains and their barbaric culture. Rohilkhand originally Madhya Pradesh (not the current state) was renamed so due to large settlements of Rohilla Patans who were invited to settle there by another bigot Aurangazeb to suppress the Rajputs. Marathas had every right to throw out those foreigners from the so-called"muslim state" if they had succeeded. Why should locals accept meekly foreigners and their holier-than-thou attitudes? In which dream was Mysore ever a muslim state? It was a part of the Vijaynagar empire and later belonged to the wodeyers. Haider ali and his son Tipu sultan who was another bigot usurped what was not rightfully theirs and came to a sticky end. Later Mysore became a colonial puppet.

Re: Afghans vs Marathas, the largest battle of 18th century
Ibrahim Khan “Gardi” (died 1761) was a Dakhani Muslim general in the 18th century India. As a general of the Maratha Empire, he commanded a force of 10,000 men, infantry and artillery. He was captured and killed by the Afghans during the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761. It was Ibrahim Khan Gardi’s battalion which faced & repulsed the Afghan onslaught during the battle. All of the Afghan attacks failed to dislodge Ibrahim Khan Gardi’s battalion from its defensive positions. About 12,000 Afghan cavalry and infantrymen lost their lives in this opening stage of the battle. Around 45,000 men from the Durrani army of Ahmad Shah Durrani lost their lives due to salvos fired at point blank range into the Afghan ranks.
Even when the news of the death of Vishwasrao, the Peshwa’s son, reached Ibrahim Khan Gardi’s battalion it kept defending its position against a numerically stronger Afghan army as, one by one, Gardi musketeers fell and the remaining members escaped from the battlefield using the darkness as cover on the night of 14 January 1761.
Ibrahim Khan Gardi was caught by Afghans while performing last rites of his master Sadashivrao Bhau and Vishwasrao. Ibrahim Khan Gardi was tortured to death by Najib-ud-daula and his Rohilla men[SUP]citation needed][/SUP] as revenge for serving the Marathas.
Ibrahim Khan Gardi’s loyalty to his master as well as courage to stand upfront against invadere distinguishes him from others and makes him memorable in folklore and songs in the Deccan region.
Trained to the French discipline as commandant de la qarde to Bussy, Ibrahim Gardi bore the title, or nickname, of “Khan,” a souvenir of his professional origin or title. Originally part of the Hyderabad Nizam’s army, consisting of a number of Telegus. His troops’ military prowess and artillery tactics were considered a great advantage in various campaigns. Captured in the Third Battle of Panipat, he is alleged to have been tortured horribly before his death by his Afghan captors. His extreme sense of loyalty to his master Sadashivrao Bhau even when some of the Maratha generals deserted Sadashivrao Bhau’s army during the thick of battle and escaped unhurt to their Jahagirs in Deccan, Ibrahim Khan Gardi fought to his end and was captured only when all his famed Maratha Gardi musketeers laid down their lives, one by one, or simply vanished during the night of 14 January 1761 when darkness fell on the battlefield. Some of Ibrahim Khan Gardi’s artillery detachment with infantry and musketeers kept on fighting while defending their positions until sunset to escape in the darkness of night. To this date, some of the Pardhi communities’ folklore have various songs in praise of Ibrahim Khan Gardi as well as Suleiman Khan Gardhi. Ibrahim Khan Gardi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Battle of Panipat : The grace and charm displayed by the cultured Afghan army…Mass of surrendered Maratha soldiers were handcuffed and then murdered, their heads chopped off by Afghans. The Afghan cavalry and pikemen ran wild through the streets of Panipat, killing tens of thousands of Maratha soldiers and civilians.[SUP][2]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP][SUP][3]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP] The women and children seeking refuge in streets of Panipat were hounded back in Afghan camps as slaves. Children over 14 were beheaded before their own mothers and sisters. Afghan officers who had lost their kin in battle were permitted to carry out massacres of ‘infidel’ Hindus the next day also, in Panipat and the surrounding area.[SUP][25]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP][SUP][26]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP] They arranged victory mounds of severed heads outside their camps. According to the single best eye-witness chronicle- the bakhar by Shuja-ud-Daula’s Diwan Kashi Raj, about 40,000 Maratha prisoners were slaughtered in cold blood the day after the battle.[SUP][2]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP][SUP][3]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP][SUP][25]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP] According to Mr. Hamilton of Bombay Gazette about half a million Marathi people were present there in Panipat town and he gives a figure of 70,000 prisoners as executed by Afghans.[SUP][25]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP] Many of the fleeing Maratha women jumped into the Panipat wells rather than risk rape and dishonour.[SUP][26]](Third Battle of Panipat - Wikipedia)[/SUP]

The unhappy prisoners were paraded in long lines, given a little parched grain and a drink of water, and beheaded… and the women and children who survived were driven off as slaves - twenty-two thousand, many of them of the highest rank in the land.

Koh-I-Noor : After the assassination of Nādir Shāh in 1747, the stone came into the hands of his general, Ahmad Shāh Durrānī of Afghanistan. In 1830, Shujāh Shāh Durrānī, the deposed ruler of Afghanistan, managed to flee with the diamond. He went to Lahore where Ranjīt Singh forced him to surrender it; in return for this, Ranjīt Singh won back the Afghan throne for Shah Shujā’. Koh-i-Noor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Umm. How biased is it actually? Wikipedia is about as good a source of accurate information as Britannica, the venerable standard-bearer of facts about the world around us, according to a study published this week in the journal Nature.Study: Wikipedia as accurate as Britannica - CNET NewsHow Accurate Is Wikipedia? | LiveScience There are errors everywhere but I don’t think it is right to completely discredit it as a neutral source either. Of course it is not the only neutral source on the web, there are many others which are not trying to promote agendas.

this is typical hindu trash talk. are you an indian?
OK, so you want us Hindus to leave the religion that was born on our own motherland and believe that foreign dynasties and foreign religions are better than my own?
No sir, we cannot trash who we are and what we are. I am very proud of my civilization, ancestors, my religion, my language, my land, everything. All these define who I am!
To each his own - you believe in something that I dont...and thats OK by me. But you got no right to call any religion/culture as trash. Get your history right first is all I am saying.
Also, you are not an Indian only for the last 65 yrs...your ancestors who were alive during this war were Indians and were probably even Hindus. Its better we dont indulge in any mud slinging against each other.
PS: This wasnt meant for me, but I had to reply...

Feel free to dispute any of the above information with valid neutral information with links
Valid neutral information? , you are copy pasting from Wikipedia which can be edited by any one.
Afghans didnt committed any atrocities after panipat war, those marathas who survived and ran away........killed and raped mulsims of the surrounding region while retreating in acts of revenge .
Pick up any neutral book written by british, you wont find about the false and fabricated tales about afghans propagated by hindus.
Re: Afghans vs Marathas, the largest battle of 18th century
You see, how wikipedia is so unreliable. Ranjit singh didnt won back afghan throne for shah shuja. Shuja was restored kabul throne in 1839 by british, though it didnt work out. Shah Shoja’ (king of Afghanistan) – Encyclopedia Britannica

There you said it yourself. Muslim Afghans commit atrocities first and that is fair but seeking a revenge as an aftermath by Hindu Marathas is wrong? What kind of logic are you defending here?
I would have been more on your side if you said 'atrocities are atrocities irrespective of who committed them'. But you dragged religion unnecessarily into it.
Re: Afghans vs Marathas, the largest battle of 18th century
my question is:
what's the purpose of digging dead from the grave out? why do we concentrate so much on the past and ignore present and not worry about future in order to better ourselves?
past is past, jo ho chukaa so ho chukaa!!!
i think we should all spend our energies in running the current affairs right and plan for the future for our own good and betterment.
