PESHAWAR: Kabul has pledged to release an undetermined number of
Pakistanis held in Afghan jails, a spokesman from the Afghan consulate said here Wednesday.
He said Pakistanis jailed since the ousting of the Taliban movement but found to have no links to the fundamentalist Islamic group or to the al-Qaeda movement of Osama bin Laden would be released on Afghanistan’s national day, August 18.
“I will be visiting Kabul tomorrow (August 15) to meet with foreign ministry officials in this regard,” the third secretary of the Afghan consulate in Peshawar, Ahmad Saeedi said.
“According to my information all of those found innocent (of links to the Taliban and al-Qaeda) have been shifted from other Afghan jails to Kabul.”
