The Taliban told people to stop growing it (so they could increase the cost of it and sell their supply of it for a greater profit, which was highly successful) and said those who did not stop would be severly punished and when you are told you are going to be punished by a gang of thugs who chopped off a woman's finger as punishment for wearing nail polish you tend to listen.
