Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

Wow! Here is a letter from today’s Dawn.

The thing is, you cannot really deny what the writer is saying. The law and order situation if under a ‘military’ rule was this bad I shudder to think what can happen under new regime.

Hopefully the missing will be found safe. And miscreants, whoever they are, brought to justice.

I------------
Missing envoyMY uncle, Tariq Azizuddin, went missing on Feb 11. My family has spent 38 days without any knowledge of his whereabouts and without any satisfactory information from the authorities.Last year during a telephone conversation I asked my uncle about safety conditions in Afghanistan. He said: “I’ve been living here and i’m safe, so there is no reason why anybody shouldn’t visit thisplace.”It seems rather unfortunate since he got kidnapped in Pakistan and not Afghanistan. I want to ask the prime minister, the president, the Chief of Army Staff, our intelligence agencies: Is Pakistan safe? If an ambassador of the government of Pakistan has to go through this ordeal …, when will this torture end?

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

interesting.

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

He was abducted from Pakistan by people of Afghanistan, so if he is "safe" in Afghanistan could mean he is safe in abductor's hands.

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

^ you missed the timeline.

I think the writer is saying his uncle was fine as long as he was in Afghanistan but got abducted while in Pakistan.

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

Just because of "its" uncle Afghanistan is Safer then Pakistan... I am sure "its" uncle sets the base line for safety and poverty. A-stan must be rich and living in harmony we should all move to A-stan and live happily ever after.

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

okay, where is he now? Is he in Afghanistan or Pakistan? Is he still abducted?

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

Worrysome as it is, i see no substance in it. It has no details. Where's the link for the actual article?

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

I don’t know what the confusion is. I said it’s a letter in today’s Dawn. I don’t know if I can link to a particular letter but try this following. Or go to Letters section in dawn.com and look for it scrolling down.

What makes you think he was abducted by Afgans?

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

very confusing, first the guy who wrote the letter should be abducted by any english teaching school and teach them good letter writing

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

What makes you think he wasn't abducted by Afghans? The confusion is that there is no timeline to describe events that took place.

It goes like

I talked to him and he said 'he is safe'...next thing the letter states is 'its unfortunate he was abducted in Pakistan'

huh? what gives...?

I'm just trying to get all the details so i can form an opinion on it TA...that's all. No need to get all fiesty over it bro. :)

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

:hehe: that’s what i’m saying..it lacks a writing style. There is no structure.

Re: Afghanistan is safer than Pakistan?

This is what I understood reading the letter.

His uncle is a diplomat. Last year he was posted to Afghanistan. At that time over the phone he said he is safe.

Then 38 days ago he was abducted while in Pakistan (either he had been moved out of Afghanistan post or he waS visiting home - that is not clear).

Point is if consuls can go missing what chance does anyoine else have
