The Karzai’s government control outside Kabul is virtually non-existent. We see rise of warlords in the post-war Afghanistan that have a stark record of human rights violations, drug trafficing, rape, murder. Given the lack of international interest and support (aid, peace keepers), one expects no good to come out of the elections and the same warlords are expected to get into the government as they are very much influential now. What do you think. Should the country go for an election? Should the US hand over power to whatever power order arises out of the elections? Or, US stay longer in the region (I mean in direct control delaying the elections oppose to a proxy control through post election government)? Any opinions.
afghanistan needs a political/legal infrastructure rebuilt, and I dont think the country is able to do it on its own, It may take some time but that is the only way to ensure that the tribal warlords dont start their fights as soon as the country isi left to its own devices.
i apologise
I am a communist, and as such, I apologise for the situation of afghanistan, for it is a situation that was (for the most part) brought into existance by the Soviet Union with it's invasion.
but, my friend, you are right. afghanistan needs a stable infrastructure in which it can rebuild, establish an economy and legal system, etc. but I don't think the usa should be in charge of this process. amerikans are outsiders; they don't really care about the afghanistani people, they just want to have another market. So, my friends, i will tell you the way I see it, whether anyone cares or not... Pakistan should be in charge until the nation is again stable. pakistanis (of some regions of pakistan) share a common ancestry, language, and culture with the afghanistanis. Pakistan was not involved with neither the soviet block nor the western block, has a muslim majority, and is generally stable and peaceful (asside from those few, sporadic conflicts with india over kashmir / jammu). And... pakistan is right next door.
are my ideas valid... or am I just another idiot with an opinion?

hey everyone has a right to express their ideas.
I agree that maybe this political/social infrastructure rebuilding should be done not just by US. I suggest that UN takes a more active role in it and lead it
As far as Pakistan's involvement goes, there will be many who would not be happy with whatever solution comes up, and if the neighbouring country wa sincharge of it, the blame game would always be played.
Pakistan should provide technical/logistical support to UN but should not be running it.
Pakistan's support to Taliban against other ethnic groups in Afghanistan hasn't been that old to qualify as history in the mind of Afghans. I don't think non-pashtun people would be very happy to see Pakistan back in their politics. True, Pakistan with the help of other neighbors like Iran, Russia, India, Central Asian States can make a positive effect-- but if made incharge would invite serious trouble.

that holds true for other countries as well, i dont think afghans in general would like to see russians calling the shots, and many have misgivings about Iran.
It has to be spearheaded by soemone who has no immediate interests in the region.
Agree. but would add that it is true with varying degree of willingness. For example, as I see, Afghans would be more willing to accept US (even though all know its interests in the region) as incharge than Pakistan.
Afghanistan is going.. not exactly well, but it’s not terrible. Things could easily change that, of course. But I think not much more can be done to push it along, simply because there is no interest.
Anyway, I thought this was interesting:
“Please, my dear brothers, let your wives and sisters go to the voter registration process,” Karzai told a gathering to mark International Women’s Day. “Later, you can control who she votes for, but please, let her go.”
un involvment
seems to me.... the un is primarily a tool of the usa, and is corrupt anyhow. I can explain why I believe so if anyone wishes, but for now, I won't bother using the space.
I know perfectly well that the only people who really care about afghanistan are afghanistanis, asside from perhaps a few isolated extrateritorial groups throughout the world. But I know that, without some kind of foreign administration until a certain continuing progress toward industrialisation and stability, that country will be in a pretty bad position. And I know that, should pakistan take the responcibility, if problems occured, the international community would naturally blame pakistan.
So, in short, what I'm saying is.... you make good points, but also that u.n. involvment would turn that country into another tool of the west, and, i guess, if the un should be involved, that the project should be spearheaded by pakistani officials... maybe even those of other nearby nations, who I feel have more respect for the nation, if not more attachment to.
