Thanks.

You mean noni afghanis? This is how I make mine........
Mix some fresh yeast, a spoonful of sugar and a little warm water together and leave to one side to activate the yeast. In a large bowl sift some plain flour and a pinch of salt, make a well the middle and gently stir in the yeast mixture and a big slosh of corn oil. Knead it into a soft dough......add a few drops of water if you need it but usually the oil and yeast mixture is enough as long as you knead it for long enough.
Leave dough covered and in a warm place for a couple of hours, punch out the air and divide into rounds. Shape the rounds into rough flat ovals, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with caraway seeds or black cumin seeds.
PLace on a baking sheet and cook in a medium hot oven for around 15-20 minutes.

Impressive, Shahreen :k:
Have you tried making bread at home? The ones I have made so far have hard crusts. Any tips how to make them store-soft?
These Afghan store people near our place bake fresh warm afghani naan for you right there on the spot. They even told mum that if she wants a filling like qeema or something she can prepare the masala and take it there and they’ll bake qeema naans for her ![]()
Thanks aishaa, afghani naan is pretty much the only bread I make.......normal bread takes ages to cook and its so much easier to buy it from a store anyway.
Femme - what's that place called?

Re: Afghani Naans
Shahreen, that sounds really nice. Have a couple of questions:
Can you use a substitute for corn oil?
I have heard of using yogurt in the mixture? Any use or no?
And the oven needs to be really REally really hot right? or the highest temp is ok?
Re: Afghani Naans
i made the naans using your recipe today and they turned out delicious...thanks for posting the recipe! :)
