A horrible crime in Canada. A rich Afghani man in Montreal murdered his own three daughters and his first wife because the older daughter wanted to marry a Pakistani boy.

Many afghans regard pakistanis and by pakistani we mean only panjabis as our enemies so it is natural that most afghans don’t their children marry a pakistani. The same goes for a lot of bengalis who are against marry a pakistani

There was a similiar case that took place not too far from my mum and dads place. A turkish family found out her daughter was talking to another boy. They abducted her, took her to turkey, tied her up, and doused acid on her for TALKING to a guy. And she died that way. Now why did they do this?? In the name of honour. When somebody mentions honour, somebody else is about to get killed. Eight out of ten times, the word hnour is used as an excuse for some of the most despicable acts on earth. So by talking to boys she DISHONOURED them. So they did they HONOURABLE thing by taking thier own daughters life. My mind cant comprehend how sick you have to be to do this. Anyways i brought this case up because its not all that different from this threads case. When you hear cases like this, you have to challenge this cultural phenomenon by telling them that it insults islam or it insults being a turk or afghani - whatever it takes to get through to these people. And if it isnt taken head on, then you allow it to fester, and grow and manifest itself in these ways

Funny thing about this honour killing was that the Afghan thought Canadian police are stupid and he will never get caught. Police planted a bug in their mini-van and recorded them talking in Dari about the whole murder. A Canadian police detective who spoke Farsi then listened to the recording and the three were charged with first degree murder. They are looking at 25 years jail with no parole. Unfortunatelt there is no capital punishment in Canada.

There's another case in this weekend's papers about a US Pakistani girl who married a UK Pak guy and they were killed in Pakistan where they'd gone for his brother's wedding.. They suspect her dad is behind it.. Her family weren't happy about her marrying the guy from the UK, apparently she was married before but that broke up (not sure if it was in the family).. So depressing whatever race is involved :(

I believe this is a subcontinental thing and not a religious thing. Such things hardly ever happen in Indpnesia, the world's largest muslim population (203 million) country. Happens in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. In India it happens even among Hindus.

^There are a few other cultures and groups that also have the problem.. Turks (more specifically Kurds), some Arabs etc.

I heard about that case aswell. And im willing to bet dollars to donuts that it was the dad because its most certainly a family member that is found guilty in the end. This whole marrying against family will and then disowning ur children because of that was actually very prevalent in Hinduism back in the day. What people have tried to do now is try and apply some same principles to pakistani culture but its obviously not working cuz pakistan over 90% islam and now we have the disaster that we see in the news these days about exactly this kind of stuff. And the funny thing is that even the hindus have moved on now.
