Afghan women resort to prostitution to survive !

Ever since the Taliban - the rulers according to 1,100 years old Islamic shariah laws, came into power they have destroyed the dreams of women, particularly those who were self-supporting, contributors to the income of the family and career-minded.

The Taliban decreed them back to the prihistoric times effectively telling them:

“women - you’re on this world to please me-- a man, have my babies and till my fields”

Deprived of their means to a livelihood, the women of Afghanistan had no other means but to resort to prostitution to survive!

when white powder was wiped off of their faces… they turned out to be hindu hookers. specially flown in from the land of cows.

Taliban has been over doing the pardah part… i wonder what will they do to ur whores.

faceup,

you are using the term prostitute as if it were an insult. My good pal NYAhmadi will tell you that it is nothing to be ashamed of as they provide a valuable service.

Now make your mind up. Are Afghanis locking up their women or are they putting them on street corners? Which would you prefer?

Yeah Xtreme is absolutely right about the term, but I think he is somewhat confused with the terminology and I hope he is not a terminal case.

The women in Afghanistan that resort to prostitution are doing it as a condition to feed themselves as they have no other alternatives left. Prostitution is only good when the infrastructure is there that provides legal and other shields. In Afghanistan drugs are crop of the time and not the brains. Therefore, I feel sorry for those Afghan women who are treated as dirt by their own people.

are these the only two xtremes offered to women under Islamic Law? You really have very xrteme conditions for judgement. There is something called spectrum.

No, they are the two extremes as being represented by faceup - but they seem to contradict each other. That's why I was hoping he might clarify his stance here.

You make sure you do your survey of Heera Mandi when you go to Pakistan in the summer and we'll have a nice chat about all this then.

In the meantime I'll try and find out if faceup's happy about the Afghan ho's or distressed.

The Taliban took control of the majority of Afghanistan in 1996, prior to that (and still) there was war, first Soviet backed versus US backed and than civil. Over 6 million people were displaced, the largest caseload of refugees in the history of the United Nations. From 1979-1989 both women and men, had no opportunity to contribute to “income” or be “career-minded”, the country was ravaged by a brutal war. After the last Soviet troop left in February 1989, the US backed and armed mujahideen forces began to fight another brutal war – a civil war.

My question to you is what time period are you discussing, where women had the opportunity to be career-minded? Do you actually think women could leave the house amidst rockets and thousands of mines littered across the countryside? I agree with you that the Taliban have not done anything to progress the rights of women. I wouldn’t blame them alone though, on the condition of women. Prior to their coming into power women were being gang-raped and physically abused by war-lords, in Kabul they were being starved to death. There laws are based on tribal code – Pushtunwali, and not on Islamic Shariah.

Afghan women have on average 12 children. This is due to their high mortality rates, both dying in refugee camps, due to poverty, poor sanitation and also dying in the war. I don’t think the Taliban decreed the statement you’ve written, it was something understood prior to them coming to power.

Its not only the Taliban who are depriving them of this opportunity. It is also sanctions levelled at Afghanistan, in order to force the extradition of terrorist suspect, Bin Laden. Anyway, what jobs do you think are available for men or women in Afghanistan? Do you actually think there are a lot of paying jobs? There economy isn’t exactly thriving.

Achtung (visiting)

I guess we can look forward to the same in Pakistan once we have Taliban style so-called 'pristine' sharia laws!
