Afghan Wedding

I have a weird question how are afghan and Pakistani wedding different? What does the bride usually wear on mendhi and wedding? How is it different if they wear hijab’s well half of them anyhow.

What about the lengha that’s usually from the guys side do I have to have her input on it after (shouldn’t her parent’s be given her a wedding dress from their side too?) So can I just get input from her about hey I like this color and type and then she’ll go along with it or do I ask just outright hey which one do you want? I don’t want my family saying it looks ugly (having seen their taste in clothing and all).

Re: Afghan Wedding

not sure. but google this. :)

Re: Afghan Wedding

depends a lot on where from Afghanistan the bride hails from. However there are some general lines.... Usually the bride wears a white-western style bridal dress. On the henna she might opt for traditional afghan clothing with matching tribal jewelry. Some afghans have the henna on the same day as the wedding i.e. the bride changes dresses two times...

Re: Afghan Wedding

...depends a lot on whether the bride is pashtun, tajik, hazara etc....

Re: Afghan Wedding

hmmm.... i find it quite interesting that in pakistan bridal wear is traditionally heavy and red whereas our neighbouring brides wear white western style dresses. such a contrast

Re: Afghan Wedding

I am really surprised by the western outfit mention. I thought it was going to be on the same lines as the NWFP weddings...at least along the common border area.

Re: Afghan Wedding

^ It depends on which part of afghanistan she's from. The white western style dresses aren't really traditional afghani wedding dresses. The traditional weddings that I have been to, the bride wore dark emerald green, very heavily embroidered bodices and wide sleeves (if that makes any sense)

Anyway, they looked amazing. I thought it was far nicer than wearing a lehnga.

Afghani weddings also have the part where they look at each others faces in a mirror under a shawl. Very cute :)

Re: Afghan Wedding

Afghan weddings are very rich in culture . they have their own rituals nothing like our regular customs like doodh pilai and stuff . they normally wear bright colors on weddings

Re: Afghan Wedding

yeah you guys are right, afghans have a very rich and diverse culture, which can also be seen at the weddings. THere are different rasms and traditional dances (the attan being the most prominent one).
YEs, they do wear traditional afghan clothes - at traditional weddings for instance in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region as well as other places in Afghanistan. But the white wedding dress is really common now, I've even seen it in Peshawar at many weddings where the bride wore white western style dress. And it's even more prominent in Kabul where the white dress is more or less the norm. And abroad....

That being said, the traditional dresses are used at the nikkah and mehndi ceremonies - some even wear traditional dress at the reception and change to white dress.

Have to stress that it depends a lot on where you are from the country etc.
