Afghanistan really needs the opium.
What a grand "achievment" fro the US 'war on terror'. They ousted a bunch of murderous thugs, and out as bad a murdering thugs in power in their place, namely the Northern Alliance. These murdering thugs have repaid them by flooding the world with drugs as never before.

I thought Afghanistan had been reduced to the parking lot for US military, so now with who's blessings these opium fields have sprung up again?
Actually rvikz, they can produce both if they wanted to. But it doesnt make enough money for them. The drugs do, but the US govt could provide these people with incentives not to grow opium. Yet it has not. The US complained all the time about the Taliban and opium. Now the levels exist with a US approved govt that were pre-taliban. They cut down a lot, but now it is all back. The feudal system is back. The warlords. The robbing. The insecurity etc. Afghanistan has warped back to 1990.

The warlords who were hiding from the taliban have emerged and are now selling drugs.

there was a forum on in toronto. They had these speakers which debated american foreign policy.
One guy said "Although the taliban were bad people. Very bad people, they united afghanistan and brought stability. The vanished the drug trade, stoped prostitution...."

Yup to where international rules mean nothing. You can blackmail the UNSC etc etc. This American led Administration in Afghanistan has no control outside Kabul. Atleast the Taliban controlled and enforced laws in all the country. Lame duck PM and govt, who make money from the drug trade. Best thing for the Afghani people.
