Afghan bombs 'target police boss'

**At least two people have been killed in a double bomb blast that reportedly targeted a police chief in the Afghan city of Kandahar, officials say.**The bombs, in a car and on a motorbike, exploded in quick succession as the car of the province’s deputy police chief passed. He was not in the vehicle.

Fazal Ahmad Sherzad told AFP news agency he believed he was the target.

Coalition forces have said they intend to target the southern province of Kandahar - a key insurgent stronghold.

The province has seen increased insurgent activity in the past few months.

“I was the target. I take this road at this time every day going to work and back home,” Mr Sherzad told AFP.

US and Afghan forces are currently engaged in a massive anti-Taliban offensive in the southern Afghan province of Helmand. This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
