Afghan beauty queen makes history

[thumb=D]_39483923_samadzai203bodyap.JPG[/thumb]
Samadzai has lived in the US since 1996

Afghanistan is to compete in a beauty contest for the first time in more than 30 years and almost two years after the fall of the oppressive Taleban regime.

Vida Samadzai, 25, who has lived in the United States since 1996, will compete alongside 60 other women from across the world for the Miss Earth title in Manila, the Philippines, contest organisers said.

Ms Samadzai, or Miss Afghanistan as she will be known in the competition, will take part in all sections of the contest, including the swimsuit section.

It is a sharp contrast to the beliefs of the former Taleban regime, which demanded that women wear coverings, or burqas, from head to toe whenever they went out in public.

Charity works

Ms Samadzai, who now studies at a Californian university, said her participation in the contest sent out a powerful message to her fellow countrywomen.

“I would like to make people aware that, as Afghan women, we are talented, intelligent and beautiful,” she told Reuters news agency.

"I’m happy and I feel great that the country is relieved from the Taleban’s regime.

“Now, women can go to school, go to work, they’re free. They don’t have to wear those long burqas anymore.”

Ms Samadzai is also not just a very beautiful face; she helped to found a US-based Afghan women’s charity which raises awareness of women’s rights and education in the troubled country.

And she is only the second Miss Afghanistan to take part in a beauty contest.

Zohra Daoud was crowned Miss Afghanistan in 1974 and technically still retains that title.

so the only way to show the world that afghani women are intelligent, smart and beautiful is to prade around in bikini and swin suits and then only the world will recognize them as smart, beautiful and intelligent.

USA and coalition have done nothing after over throwing taliban except helping the pot growers to grow more pot, have more porn in the country and now this. what else is next? nude bars?

Well if it stops the rampant homosexuality among the paktoons then yes...this is the best thing that could have happened. Let's give it some time..before we determine that US presence has kept Afghanistan from becoming a member of the Paris club.

Afghanistan liberation is bearing fruits, or not. This is what US and coalition want, liberation, anyone who wants to don their cloth shall be American/coalition hero, anyone who is up for homoseCSuality is another to be mentioned

:k: great freedom, yaayyyyyyy

Look at her...is this another way of Afghans terrorising the world?

for God's sake give her something to eat.

Miss so and so country are supposed to come out of internal competitions which allows all competing girls from that country a shot at the 'title'.. if your country doesn't even have such a pagent, just by assuming the name may be good for nations desperate for some PR.. but does nothing to show the real state of affairs in the country..

It’s sad to see the sorry state that Muslims’ are in.

Matsui, Pakhtoons’ are not as gay as the media makes them out to be. Homosexuality is far more rampant in western society where every other woman is a slut and it’s easy to get laid but still people choose to be gay.

Homosexuality is frowned upon in Pakhtoon society. I’m not saying gays don’t exist in Pakhtoon society because they do, you have bad people in every society it’s just not as rampant as people make it out to be.

If it were true what people say about Pakhtoon’s they would all be dieing from AID’s like gays in the west.

It was punishable by death under the Taliban rule but when the deen is removed people start following their desires which leads to a corrupt and immoral society.

PS. She’s actually quite ugly, looks like she’s suffering from anorexia.

Wow... you have unlearned me in just 13 lines.

I bet you would love a Pakhtoon hotdog in your buns Matsui baby- stop acting like a homophobic. That’s so un-American of you dude.

ChannMahi bava I agree, this woman is a shame to all Afghans- not because of the conservative values of the Afghan people, but because she is so God damn ugly- she looks like she came out of a Bollywood Hindi film.

Afghan beauty? Now Sharbat Gulla, a young refugee girl covered from head to toes only her face showing made the entire world feel inferior just with her striking eyes. With what? Just her eyes! The world had gone mad and still is mad after those eyes.

Though there is a difference between these two, a real Afghan beauty Sharbat Gulla only had to show her eyes to make the world think of Afghanistan and this American so-called Afghan has to strip her poor self to get attention.

Oh well, whatever floats her boat but it ain’t floating non for me.

IS this an achivement!

I don't think so only these peverted men who applaud think it is an achivement so that they can ogle at semi naked women as if they are a piece of meat!

Women are an honour which need to be protected not to be exploited as commercial product or trophy!

Desis give to much attention to that stupid miss world show!!! Everyone knows its an advertisement scam, whoever pays the most for advertizing costs gets to choose which country wins!!!

ak47, women need to be protected just like how they were protected by the talibz right? :2guns: Look them up, if they try to get out, take them to stadiums and shoot them in the head!

interesting ..

Spock So you support peverted semi naked women in competitions does’nt surprise me at all you probably in front row no doubt.

What has talibaz got to do with anything

Islam protects the honour of woman not show them off like some cheap meat!

^
in west this is what majority of women are to them, cheap meat. :nook:

she'd look much nicer in a shilwar kameez... it can be tight fitted if desired?

if women from these countries (pakistan, afghanistan, india, sri lanka, bangladesh) want to take part in such contests... and want to show their culture and make a name for their country.... why not dress like the general public (as in, peoplein their home lands)?

is a woman less desired if shes elgantly dressed in a shilwar kameez or sari? tsk na..... i feel perverted just looking at these women..

whats wrong with her shoulders? does she do a lot of swimming. she looks like a hanger.

is that the kind of "liberation" and "freedom" women want? :-S

Munney, read my post again, firstly, I said only ppl like you watch this stupid show called miss world... Secondly, my response about the treatment of women was to your statement about how the west doesnt protect its women. Atleast it doesnt lock them up and shoot them in the heads in football stadium, and oh yes, they are given the choice to participate in miss worlds and all, they are not forced. Its a no contest.

Thats what I was referring to... The west gives them the freedom to decide what they want to do, fundos dont do that, they just shoot em in the heads.
