I couldn’t have felt a stronger bond between the two , after doing one of the gruelling races I have ever done. The relay race was called seek the peak, and it started from the sea-level all the way up to a peak at about 3000 ft. The total distance, which i did it as solo, was 16.7 K, and eventhough, I made a relatively barrelling effort in a training span of ten days, doing the exact route once before the race, running long distances with combination of doing the mountain stretch of the route, but the race itself was something else.
It was over 80 degrees; very hot for Vancouver, and during the race I tried to keep a faster pace than normal which made me pay at the end. Overall, it was lots of fun, although, I would have really liked to finish it in the proximity of two hours; it took me 2:34. Once i got to the top of the mountain, I was completely dehydrated, and felt swear cramps in my right leg. Stretching well before the race, drinking close to seven bottles of sports drink and pumping like four gel packs during the race didn’t help…But, my cardio carried me throughout, especially during the hardest part, which was hike up to the top after an 11 k uphill run…no matter how hard i tried to pace faster, i couldn’t due to stiffness in my legs at the latter part..
Throughout the training, i focused more on cardio conditioning, negating two crucial factors; stretching, and light weight training to power up the legs and abdomen muscles..and i learnt the hard way, for two days I was in excruciating pain due to the effects of cramps..so a lesson well learnt, you cannot become a better athlete unless your aerobic and anaerobic can supplement each other…
sehar - many thanks, and I am extremely grateful to the Creator for all his blessings…you know, there are people in our lives who always inspire us, and friends who push us beyond limitations. I am fortunate to have both.
Recently, we have been training with this gentleman who is fourty nine years old, but in an extra-ordinary well shape. He’s been coaching me on how to pace oneself on long stretches with height involved. He also did the relay, and timed it under 2 hours :k: Then, I had the pleasure of meeting another gentleman, who is 70 years old, and he participates in all these races throughout the season…if life permits, I wish to be just like them when i am their age..
thanks MQ all i got to say is just go for it..
munni, yeah i think i have always been pretty ‘restless’. My father has influenced me a lot in this reagard, and he always used to take me for jogging and outdoors..although, I have switched between activities. I used to play lots of basketball when i was in my twenties, but not anymore. Now, I am mostly into sports which have to do with mountaineering..I think, a lot of it has to do with the surroundings.
outlaw bro you need to be chained to your bed or the chair of ur computer table with a zanjeer and i aint kidding you just recovered from a shoulder injury give yourself some rest coz exercisein hoti rahein gi, lekin ur body needs some recuperation time i reckon. too much exercise aint good. maybe u should just go for slow walks in the fresh air for now. feel better
OL, you are an inspiration for us all. As soon as I come back from vacation in mid July I am going to renew my gym membership. Right now I just run for about 30 minutes at 5 mph. But no weights, so my muscle tone is all gone.
