TRAILER

**Ae Fond Kiss **
***Casim is a second generation Pakistani from Glasgow. Working as a DJ in Glasgow’s coolest venues, he dreams of buying his own club. His parents Tariq and Sadia are devout Muslims and plan for him to marry his beautiful cousin Jasmine - who is soon to arrive in the UK. His proud father spends all his spare time supervising the building of an extension to the family home where the couple are to live. Casim’s parents then arrange for his older sister Rukhsana to marry Amar, a promising young scientist from a good family. Life fof Casim and his family is ticking along nicely. Until he meets Roisin . . . .

A music teacher at his sister Tahara’s school, Roisin Hanlon is sparky and intelligent. She and Casim soon fall deeply in love. But Casim knows all too well that, even if he wasn’t due to marry, his parents would never accept a ‘goree’ - a white girl. And as a Catholic, Roisin finds that her own community aren’t very supportive either. Then Casim and Roisin are discovered, and the repercussions of the scandal reach far and wide. When Casim’s family find that their peaceful and ordered life is threatened, they decide to take action - bringing matters to a dramatic conclusion . . . ***

Any of the brits planning to see it?

Wow. Looks interesting.

Ok, its on my watch list now.

:k: looks good, who is it directed by?

There’s so many of these films about these days … they’re all the bloody same. I think I’ll give it a miss :nook:

going 2 watch it soon :)

I wonder, can nobody make a movie about a desi guy falling in love with a local .... desi girl? I guess that concept is too foreign and unappealing.

Hmmm...intresting when it will release in Holland Shinoo??

:bash: u mentioned all the story

I know it's the same ol' story but I'm still going to watch it, simply cuz it's abt a pakistani family. I dunno why but I just HAVE to see every movie with a 'desi' touch.

Nilu, I think 2nd week of OCt.

True. Most of these British films that I'm seeing involve desis falling for white people. Bend it Like Beckham, East if East, this other really told film, Shalom Salam, and now this one. Whatever!

It must be interesting to watch, since it's about a Pakistani family. Because, mostly we see stories about Indian families, as in Bend it like... though the concept is the same. People from two different nations falling for eachother. Same concept has been showed in a lot of Indian movies like Gadar, Bombay, Dehek, and another movie yet to release Veer-Zaara (with SRK and Preity). Where Hindu guys fall in love with Muslim girls. They just want to show that when it comes to love, you don't look at the religion or nation, even if you really care about it, you can still fall in love with someone who's totally different from you. And they want to prove that it's not impossible for them to spend their lives together. But that's totally a piece of s**t. Even if people from different religions and culture live together, it's still not acceptable in our religion, except christains and jews (girls) waghera. Anyhow, it's always interesting to watch the families quarrelling about the situation and how they handle it in the movies, it just brings a sarcastic smile on your face.

Hmmm Okeez :D

Saw the movie today.
Well worth it if you like this genre. Realistic with the necessary humour and very recogniseable :-)

Anyone else seen it?

its directed by Ken Loach, director of Sweet Sixteen, apparently they wanted to depict the lives of British Pakistani's. They said people have clouded their judgements after sept 11 and that they were thankful to the muslim and Pakistani society in Scotland. It stars muslim pakistani model turned actor Atta Yaqub, and got great reviews in OK! magazine. it also has other stars in the movie who are muslims. Great to see pakistanis doing summat 4 themselves.

Ps- ne watch the Great British Asian Invasion....so insulting!

yes I found it insulting too.

Especially the way pakistanis in particular were portrayed as backwards pind livin paan eating illiterate dharri wali.

Not that taht in itself is insulting, but some of us have "class"

^hiccup je u r right, they could have used other Pakistanis such as Shazia Mirza, a stand up comedian and various other people instead for the Pakistanis they show images of Sept 11 and the riots, talk about adding fuel to fire, the indians and sikhs were portrayed as friendly clever people and the Pakistanis as fanatic islamic extremists, there are so many doctors, lawyers, barristers, youth workers, management and media personalities, instead they paint a picture of Paksitanis being paindoo!
