I can totally imagine your situation. in my home, the story is opposite..hubby is usually against spending on his family since no one in his family is into govong gofts..whereas in my family it is a common thing to do. so, he always encourages me to get gifts for my family probably because he know he/we get many from them as well. still I make sure that i do get something for my SILs and MIL too at times even though they have hardly gifted me anything ever. my mom is usually after me to get stuff for them on eids,etc cuz she thinks I should do whatever has been a tradition in my family rather than dealing with them the way they take things.
as far as my experience concern, most of the ladies just buy the gifts without even telling or showing the husband ever, they just go to pak.. and distribute in closed doors... .. right :)
i totally agree with rupay…u should buy the same for his family and yours that way there is no distinction…i just hope your in laws are not like mine…my MIL will shun anything that is not from M&S,debenhams and Clarks ..she will look at labels first…anything else gets distributed amongst other relatives and her friends
anyways try as much as possible to avoid conflict before you go…i think you should buy stuff for your family and let him know, if he kicks off..let him but bear it patiently, try not to say much…as this will overshadow and ruin your whole trip..
