Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

Re: Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

Rsheikh: you really are ready! Well done. Your situation sounds like mine, it was scheduled for August 2008, then Dec 2008 and now we're looking at October 2009. I don't have my walima outfit sorted, in fact that's something I'm already worried about since my ma-in-law apparantly has bought it already along with my fiance's wedding outfit - FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. I have told my fiance that if I don't like it he has to fork out for a new one. She also has gold that she bought years ago from the middle east, I am just hoping that it's classical as my wedding day will be a slightly more modern look, compared to my walima which I want a slight mughal theme to - I bet it ends up being clunky gold - would it be cheeky to ask if I can update it?

Sahar, sounds like that solution worked out for all of you. I have jhumke too and they are gorgeous!! My tikka is very sweet as well. That necklace is definately getting a face lift. My earrings were redesigned from the modern straight ones into jhumke.

Sara: why don't you like jhumke? They look so classical :)

Re: Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

WTH she bought the weddingdress 15 years ago?

Re: Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

LOL I exagerated...

I clarified this with my fiance, his mom bought the stuff in 2001, so it's still pretty darned old. She thought he would get married back then whilst they were looking for rishta's for him :) he wasn't ready for it so the stuff has been in storage for that long.

well i dont think its a big deal if the jewelry was bought yrs ago actually most of my jewelry was bought yrs ago by my mom besides the one set that matches my bridal outfit i think ppl saved $ by buying it back then comparing to how high gold prices are now and u can always modify the old designs and bring them up to date...but the clothes kind of need to be up to date for sure...2001 isnt so bad compare to 15 yrs ago hehehe...have u personally seen the dress they have? i rem a few yrs ago they had the heavy thick "tilla" work in style where today its a bit of hybrid work beaded kaam very thin tilla etc. I think u should aski them to show it to you and i dont u should hestitate asking or wanting a new outfit for valima. :)

It's true, plus I think it's all Middle Eastern Gold which is 22ct, not the mix stuff we get in Pakistan nowadays. I'm going to ask my fiance to take a picture of the dress. As I'm curvy and girls from his community are quite small there is a good chance it won't fit. LOL In which case I will get something new from pakistan :)

Re: Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

yea same here bought all the gold from middle east it just has such a pure look to it i didnt have the tikka or joomar with any of the sets but when i went to pakistan i finally got gold tikka and joomar made on order but for some reason it doesnt have the same look and the color is slightly off comparing it to the ones my mom got from the middle east so it made me appreciate the jewelry so much more.

Its funny you say that, same thing happened to my cousin her tikka and jhumar are a different colour to the main set. I heard that whenever people wear gold from middle east to the Pakistani Jewellery stores the owners always try and get them to sell them the Gold because the jewellery is so good/pure.

Re: Advice regarding wedding jewellery bought

yea i even gave them one of the earings of my sets so they can kind of copy the same thing and make it look like i bought it with the set but u can tell they didnt do the exact duplicate which i really didnt care about the design as much as i did about the color and color was wut kind of irritated me bc its not the same but thts the gold in pakistan...and yes ive heard about jewelres they going nuts if they find out u r tying to sell ur gold bought from middle east its like u said bc its so pure
