Advice needed --- urgently

Alright fellow guppies

I have been doing freelance work for a while but never bothered to register the actual company name and usually clients paid to me on my personal name but this time this client of mine made the cheque on my business name (which isn’t registered)

So anyone here who can give an advice on what are my options now?

It took me 3 months to get this client to pay up and I am not in a position to go back to ask him to reissue it – i want to try all other options first.

Oh btw this is in Canada so canadian ppl can you plz advice?

hey man... you can register a sole proprietor business name online... and then just take your registration number etc. to a bank to open up an account in your business name. You can then deposit the cheque as your first deposit into the account as well.

It's pretty simple. I've done this a couple of times.

If you want to get your business incorporated etc. - that's a longer route - and this can be done in due course.
