advice for woman travelling alone in pakistan?

hey everybody…

i’ve read through a lot of the posts in this forum and gathered some info on travelling safely, etc, but i wanted to get some more opinions and advice. i’m 20 years old, planning on taking a train from karachi to lahore, i guess shalimar or karakoram is the best idea? also thinking about staying in a women’s hostel in lahore for a few days. does anyone know of good/safe ones in a convenient area? i want to visit old lahore, touristy things, anarkali and food street and all that. is trying to travel in a rickshaw a totally stupid idea? is it also a stupid idea to travel around without a male companion? any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Re: advice for woman travelling alone in pakistan?

Buy the most expensive class train tickets.

Dress good.
While dealing with people use word "My father" a lot.

Travling by racksaw is good. Eating out is good too.

Try to find youth hostling in lahore to stay there.

Bottom line:
Don't give people idea that you are alone for days.
Talk to older people and men who are with families.

Re: advice for woman travelling alone in pakistan?

what do you mean by dress good? i mean, shouldn't i try to blend in, and not stand out as a foreigner/rich? a plain shalwar kameez should be okay?

i am mostly referring to the travelling in a train part here...

well, i'm also "them" i'm pakistani and speak urdu.

Re: advice for woman travelling alone in pakistan?

why are you “alone” ?

travelling in train is no big deal, there are always families there in first class so its no biggie
If you have some girl friends living in hostels then stay with them :k: it would be convenient, you can visit all the places

If you live in pakistan, you know most of the problems

If you do not live in pakistan, then I would not even advise a ‘guy’ to travel in the city all by himself, let alone a girl ! …at least you should have some girl(s) with you.
