Advice for moderators and feedback from fellow guppies !

From what I have noticed from my experience in this forum, Its serves more as a platform to promote secretarianism, some false propoganda and hatredness rather than educational purpose.

It seems most of the people think they are scholars and argue, mud sling each other… come up with their own interpretation of things, in the name of islam, which might not be good for other people who are here just to seek knowledge, and might learn the wrong and unreferenced claims by others,

I would advice moderators rather than have people debate among each others and have them present their own interpretations on different things, even though they might not have scholarly knowledge themselves, have this forum serve as a place to ask questions to scholars, If they could get in touch with some sunni, shia, ahmedi, hindus and other scholars and have them moderate the forum and have them answer the questions one might have. It would help the forum serve better and one can be sure that the knowledge comes from some authentic source of the sect and not some fellow guppy who himself isn’t much educated on the subject.

Views from other guppies are welcome.

This is a dicussion forum, not a Q&A place. If someone is looking for seeking a scholarly advice, there are plenty of places on the net to do just that. Anyone using Gupshup to solicit scholarly opinion is either a fool or deserves the kind of advice they get. :)

Seriously why would a scholar hang around here (with all due respect to gupshup). Do you know how many years it takes to become one.

I do agree we should be careful and not quote Quraan and hadith with their own interpretations. This just creates alot of misunderstanding.

Personally I think religion forum should split, so people can discuss sectarian issues in one forum and people who want to learn and talk about religion can come here.

Faisal... Every discussion has to full fill a purpose.... PPl just don't discuss such issues for Entertainment purposes... When you talk to each other you learn from them... and from what i have noticed ppl talk on religous matters as they are scholars,, they will issue fatwas which they themselves can't defend.... Let me ask you..whats the purpose of having religous discussion??? I hope ppl don't mud sling here or argue just for fun of it.... Or is that what you are here for?????

And why do scholars study so much for.... Preaching other for religon, is a good way to sawab.... Whats the purpose of someone to study a life time to become a scholar when no one can benefit from their knowledge.
If not a scholar we can get a few maulanas alteast... Its can serve as a mean to dawah..

You need to get your expectations right. This is peer-to-peer. Not scholar-to-student. If someone is laboring under a misconception, they should rectify it pronto. Its hardly fair to blame the moderator for misunderstanding the purpose of this forum.

If you are a maulana or can get a maulana to come here and respond... great. Else, what you have is what you get. A bunch of interested ordinary folks. Like it or not. :)

And my quesiton still remains un answered moderator sahab, What is the purpose of discussing sensitive religous matters, where there is no educational purpose involved, why are people making fun of each other believes, why are they arguing on different matters, referring to different concepts of Quran and sunnah, different books, when they are not willing to learn from each other... Are all these acitivities carried here for entertainment purposes or is it a way to socialize with each others in your view....

Let me quote what you said earlier:

So in your humble opinion all these people sweting, by trying to argue refering each other to ayats of quran and sunnah with the limited or scholarly knowledge they have are just mere fools... or should I say these ayat, hadith doesnt mean anything to you ... ????

I suggested that 3 months ago but from moderators it was a dull idea and couldnt be implented.

Faisal Bhai

In my opinion there should be 2 sub-forums in religion.
1- Discussions about islam
2-Non-Islamic disussions

Why do we have a seperate forum for cricket in khail khilari ? Because 90% of the population of gupshup follows cricket.

Why cant same be done here ? espeically when almost 95% of the population here is mulims... ? I dont understand this.....

Just a short comment – We tried getting in touch with some knowledgeable ppl once, we, as a Pakistani discussion board could not meet the requirements. We can’t for example have four or five ‘non-guppies’ moderating one forum. Plus their demand or moderation criterion doesn’t fit with our overall model. We have given it a serious try.

It should be the poster and readers personal responsibility to post confirmed information on any religion they’re debating. And it should be member’s responsibility to ignore and thereby limit threads re. secretarianism etc. GS serves as a platform for discussion; we’d rather not dictate the content, as we’d like to believe that we’re dealing with mature and responsible ppl.
