Advice about Losing weight

Its been 6 months since having had my baby but the weight hasnt budged! I think it’s about time I stop waiting for it to drop and do something about it…

I’ve really bad sugar cravings and thats basically why I havent been able to watch what I eat. Luckily, with all that sugar intake, I still havent gained any excess weight which makes me think that if I can only start eating healthy then the weight will come off. I have started with interval training on the treadmill for 30 minutes 3 times a day for the past week…and I love how it leaves me feeling so energized.

I need serious advice about how can I go about losing all this baby weight while nursing? Anyone else went through the same thing?..I am aiming to lose 30 lbs in the next 6 months…and not just lose this weight but tone up…I was thinking about doing Jillian Micheals 30 day shred…is it good for toning?

Re: Advice about Losing weight

JM's 30 days workout is excellent for toning.

Re: Advice about Losing weight

Yep...you need some toning/strength training in your routine. Muscle weighs less and it helps burn fat. So get out those 2, 3, 5, and 8lb dumbbells and get to work.

I've heard good things about JM though I haven't tried it. Tamilee Webb's "I Want That Body" DVD is also good. It has a total of 6 short (15 minute) workouts - 2 for arms, 2 for the bum, and 2 for the abs. The first workout is the easy one, the second one more intense. And the short workout time is probably perfect for a new mom.

As for the diet, I would say just be moderate in all things. I know that's really vague, but that's really all it comes down to. Keep the junk food to a minimum, lots of water, fruits, veggies, milk, whole grains. And every once in a while, give in to that sugar craving with a bite of chocolate or a piece of cake. It's ok, so long as you don't go overboard.

Thanks Sajalina and mistral...

I have the JM workout dvd...so will get started on that...

I checked out a few calorie counters and they usually suggest 2000 calorie diet....which I think I might be eating, maybe even a bit more...but no weight loss...If I cut back to 1400 and I am left feeling hungry....it just doesnt make sense...:(

Re: Advice about Losing weight

1800 calories is ok for a nursing mom to lose weight. You acn even get down to 1700 esp if the baby is older and on solids too.

Re: Advice about Losing weight

alishat i am in the same boat as you .. also nursing and want to loose 30 pounds.

i am also in the same boat. my son is 7 months now and i havent lost any weight but i am not nursing. so that makes it even harder to lose weight. i have been trying to eat healthy and about 1500 calories a day and i have been exercising too. i lost a few inches with jillian michael's different exercises like 30 day shred and no more trouble zone but i am finding it very hard to be consistent with exercise with two under 2 years kids. all i need is motivation to exercise daily.

Re: Advice about Losing weight

girls.. I have the same issue. Even though i don't breast feed my daughter anymore and I have been exercising and trying to eat somewhat healthy the weight just won't go down.. what is it that I have to do to loose about ten pounds??

I tried to cut down on the calories and exercise a lil harder for the past two days and I am exhausted as hell!..it’s definitely not working for me with the nursing…I am gonna try to push myself further and see what happens for the next couple of days…If I feel the same way then I guess I am going to put my weight loss plans on hold until I stop nursing :bummer:

yeah…why dont you do that already. 2 days aren’t gonna make any difference neither 2 weeks (FYI) and until you are nursing just make healthier choices in foods, avoid fried stuff and fast food. eat whole grains, fruits and veggies, rice, home cooked meat, etc etc .
