Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

Babri Mosque was demolished in December 1992.

The Indian court system has taken 12+ years to decide for charge sheeting the culprits for trial.
How long the trial system will go on. The leaders inducted for trail are old enough and may not survive the court verdict.
Interesting point is that Advani was declared innocent in 2003 when he was Dy PM and Home Minister of India, and now there is another party in the Govt, Advani is indicted again.
What does this spectacle mean?

Advani to face trial in Babri demolition case

Babri Masjid demolition on Wednesday returned to haunt BJP President LK Advani when the Allahabad High Court set aside a trial court order discharging him in the case and also directed trial against eight others including Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and Ashok Singhal.

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

I think every person who has ever destroyed any religous object or facility should face a trial..dead or alive. We need a clean slate in this world and by righting the wrongs of history through some introspection, we should make great progress. Lets start in Sumeria and then move to the east.

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

off topic i guess: just a question for indian guppies here. do u think Hindu Nationalism represented by Advani, BJP, RSS parties, is good for indian democracy? or is it a threat to democracy?

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

what do you mean by “threat to democracy”? though a Hindu rashtra is a threat (well, an elimination) of Indian secularism…it’s effect on Indian democracy is not clear. in theory, Indian democracy can remain unaffected. regardless of its effects on democracy, Hindu nationalism is definitely a threat to India and needs to be eradicated.

btw, your grouping is slightly flawed. BJP’s increasingly watered-down version of Hindu nationalism was tolerable…it’s hard to classify the BJP. much of the BJP top brass are at odds with VHP/RSS top brass…some of the latter have gone as far as to label the former as “anti-Hindu”

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

BJP has toned it down their version, true. but they also seem to be engaged in double talk. and i was refering to hindu nationalism through out the history of India after independence, not just recent phenomenon.
p.s: i dont mean to attack anyone or offend anyone.. just something we've been discussing in uni, i thought i'd just bring it up here and ask what you guys think about it.

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

i understand, but please clarify what you mean by its “effect on Indian democracy”

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

I am not a supporter of BJP. But since the question is about BJP and their commitment to democracy, I think they are safe. BJP or its earstwhile Jan Sangh was active in the anti emergency movement that had taken place after the imposition of emergency by Indira Gandhi.
They are also against misuse of article 360 (?) which gives constitutional authority to the central govt. in dismissing state govt with impunity. I think they have a point in that.

Re: Advani to face trial in Babri demolition

Hindu Nationalism represented by Advani, BJP, RSS parties is not good for Indian democracy.
As well as the trend to appease Muslim vote bank is a poison for India and Indian democracy.
