LB, its too hard to say by few phrases , it can be learnt. If you want to learn good urdu, read urdu books a lot specially urdu literature text books of matric/intermediate/bachelors level etc. They include pieces of stories from Urdu classics and giants like Krishan Chandar,Chirag Hassan Hasrat,MaulviAbdul Haq,Zafar ali Khan,Abul Kalam Azad etc
Re: Advanced-Level Urdu

Reading Urdu Classics would definately help you :) it will improve your Vocabulary. Mark my words
Re: Advanced-Level Urdu
Imagine if we couldn't read any English--I'm sure our vocabularies would be limited dramatically. We couldn't even enjoy GS :) So that's how it is in Urdu for many of us. Since we can't read well, our vocabulary is basically limited to my exposure to others speech. personally, i have found television and movies have helped me a little because you hear speech in its natural rhythms. i learned many new words from context alone: ex. roshankhyali-enlightened thinking, suhba-province, qatl-e-aam-massacre, etc. But it is frustrating not having the same range of words in Urdu that I do in English, especially for emotions....for example, happy/content/thrilled/excited all have different shades of meaning in English but in Urdu I can't quite articulate those nuances...I just have to say "khush" and "bohot hi khush" which is not exactly what i mean!! i remember i used to hate my english teacher, for making me write ugly words 'plethora' and 'obseqious'...now im glad i know such words. if only i could find an urdu class to learn writing skills..
Re: Advanced-Level Urdu
Jalebi121 , may be you would be atonished to know that Urdu Poetry ,literature and language is one of the richest in the world.Even English poetry cannot be parallel in this regard.Thoughts, heights, shades simply unbelieveable because its the mixture of Hindi,Marathi,Gujrati,Tamil,Persian,Turkish,Arabic ,Bangla and all blended into 800 years to have we now known as Urdu :)
I assure you there are even more words and emotions in Urdu for example
Mussarat
Shadmani
Sansani Khez
Tahayyar
Mutahayyar
Purjosh
Purazzam
Purhimmat
etc etc for the words you have given :)
desertbird, i didn't say those words didn't exist in URdu! i just said i don't know the words, so that's why i can't articulate myself well. Of course i know that Urdu is a very expressive language :) See if one has the best tools, and doesn't know how to use it, then the tool is rendered less useful...so right now I am trying to learn how to use this tool (Urdu).
