what i have read in Quran is that the punishment for those who commit illegel sex is 100 lashes. it doesnot discriminate between married and unmarried people. how come then it is said that for unmarried it is 100 lashes and for married stoning till death.
i’ve heard that it is proven from ahadith but the problem is that ahadith come after Quran and it is possible that the death panelty was given before the reveletion of verses concerned and not after that.
I would think the difference in punishment is because extramarital sex is a greater "sin" because it destroys lives of others beside yourself, ie your spouse and children. And unless premarital sex is rape, it involves no one but yourself.
hadith not only mentions stoning as a punishment, but saheeh hadith from bukhari also mentions that a group of people will evolve near the day of judgement and will say that Quran does not mention this punishment hence we will not act upon it....
and when the Prophet (saw) ordered the stoning as a punishment for married adulterators, i am sure he was very well aware of the verse u talk of....
