So can anyone give me some information on this? I need it for a friend of mine - she already has a child and wants to adopt one from Pakistan. Who does she get in touch with? Any good agencies and how exactly does the process work? Please advise.
Re: Adoptions in Pakistan from the US
Reha, I don’t know about the procedure but eidhi homes for children and SOS village for children would be some places to look for adoption.
Re: Adoptions in Pakistan from the US
The process from Pakistan is a bit long. It is better to get in touch with the agencies as mentioned in the above post.
It may also require for your friend to stay in Pakistan when the adoption becomes final to get custody of the child or she can (I think) nominate some family member to do that. This period is about 2 to 3 months.
Also need to get home study done here in the US.
There are a couple of threads here about adoption. Also there is a Pakistan adoption group on yahoo. Ask your friend to join the group. There are lawyers on that group. I am sure she will get helpful information from there iA
Start homestudy in US
Get the background checks and immigration approvals out of the way
In parallel call Edhi
From what i know, The wait may be long for a newborn especially a boy ..just the way it is
Older kids are faster.
Be ready to either go to Pak very quickly when a match is made or have someone who can represent you and make decisions, from what I know you have 72 hours from match to decide yes or no. The paperwork and process will take a few months, as many as 6 for that duration the child can’t leave pak.
In US depending on state law you may have to do re-adoption where the state appoints a guardian ad litem to represent the kids and that process can be a couple of months.
