I had no idea that adoption was a recognized and legal process in Pakistan.

I do know of the Edhi foundation arranging for "adoptions" in some very, very, special cases but can't help you with the lawyer part. Sorry.

I think speaking to Edhi directly is the best thing to do. I didn't know Pakistan has adoption lawyers either.

Nope Edhi will only help if you adopt from them.

Yes this is true. They only support you if you are adopting from them.

Can you give us some more details Muniya......my nephew is in the process of filing with Edhi......are there other options for adoption?

I know people who have adopted through the edhi foundation. There are no lawyers. The only issue would be if you're adopting a family member/orphan that you need to get "legal" guardianship in Pakistan before you bring them over.

I am muddled in the process myself, I dont know how much help I can be.
I want to adopt a particular child from within the family. So the process is (from what I understand) I have to adopt the child there and then sponsor her and once she is here I can adopt her in the USA.

I always wanted to know how one could adopt a baby in Pakistan. Does anyone know what the process is even with the Edhi foundation for someone who would want to adopt a baby and bring it here? Is it an expensive task?

^^ shouldnt be too expensive if you do all the leg work yourself.
I believe 10,000.00 max..

Ok before you get to pakistan GET YOUR things in order in america. The process for adoption requires almost a years worht of stuff in the US, social worker interviews, paperwork, home/family interviews and inspection. Get that done first, then you go to adopt the child and you can usually get the child over in 2 months. Otherwise you'll have the child and can't bring them back until you do the above...

Amelie, the lawyers I've contacted in the USA are all saying that I need to adopt there first.
I hate this, there should be lawyers that specialize in this.
