People started abusing the system as it became a popularity contest.........and also if you got a warning from a moderator, you could give up some of your points to get rid of the warning (automatically). That way the warnings were not effective because people who had thousands of reputation points would get warnings but then get rid of them without having a ding in their reputation points. On the other hand people who weren't as popular or didn't have as many reputation points were stuck with the warnings. Unfair.
