Dear Adbulmalik,
Just want to say that I admire your courage to speak against evil and unjust society. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. I wish more people in our country were like you, not afraid to speak against what is obviously so wrong.
Whenever there is a movement to expose the nastiness that is being bestowed upon Pakistanis in the name of religion, the movement is either suppressed with force (by terrorism) or the person labeled as a moron or kafir, and is persecuted under the “law” (institutionalized terrorism). The religious sentiment is so often evoked that makes one wonder whether there is a life outside of religion in Pakistan. It sells very well with the uneducated masses. It saddens me that even the educated (learned) ones also give into such pressures. Some, to my amusement, refuse to use their brain, and are totally blinded to question anything that may seem a bit odd, or out of time by today’s standards. An example of such will be converting a Muslim to another faith is an act punishable by death in Pakistan (and many other Muslim nations). But no one will want their missionaries to be killed in they converted Christians to Islam in Europe. Double standards at its best!
Some more reasons for not to be religious.
nyahmedi,
well said! alas there aint much who will ponder over it! thats the depressing part!
I agree with everything you said except the part about Adbul Malick. There you have me confused!
What has Adbul done worthy of "heroship"? Cut and paste countless articles regarding human rights abuses in select third world countries? The true heroes are those coping with the day to day conditions in these countries and most of them would resent his posts had they the chance to read them. They would much rather discuss their inability to access water and provide a nutritional meal for their children, rather than the injustices supplanted on Tasleema Narin. Adbul would provide us a be4tter service if he added some of his won personal insights into the problems facing those communities he purports to benefit rather than plagiarizing sections of the Wall Street Journal and plastering them over these forums. Real human rights activists (including Martin Luter King Jr) include "activism" in their everyday pursuits and don't stop short of "advocacy". Perhaps Adbul is an activist and I just don't know it. In which case I apologize. But if not maybe he should rethink his strategy because at the rate he's going all he has succeeded in doing is offending the sensitivities of those he wishes to help by broadcasting what he perceives to be their "inferiority" masked in human rights rhetoric.
Achtung ;)
