I’m sick and tired of my nails looking like crap within a few days of getting a manicure. I’m seriously considering getting fake nails. But I’ve never had them and don’t know anything about them. I’ve been researching online but so far, haven’t found any good sites.
So far I read that “silk wraps” are supposed to be the best for your nails. But I don’t recall ever seeing “silk wrap” being offered at any of the salon’s I’ve been to. What’s the average price for a “silk wrap”?
Most salon’s I’ve been to usually offer solar or acrylic nails. What’s the difference b/t these two? Which one is better? I know I don’t want totally white nails(I think they’re called french tips?). I want something with color.
I had great nails until I got pregnant. Dunno what happened, obviously some changes in hormonal balances etc., but since then my nails have been thin and very weak.
So, having had them in the the past for special occassions or business trips, I went and got UV tips put on. I've had them on for almost two months now and they are great! Much better, in my opinion, than the acrylic ones cuz these look natural. So if you go with a french manicure finish, then the nails are crystal clear and don't have the opaque appearance that the acrylic ones do.
The only trick to having the tips put on is to make sure that they are a managable length. If they are too long, you will get frustrated with them and they are more likely to "lift".
Silk wraps are rarely done now. I used to have it done if a nail had broken or was particularly weak, but it's been ages since I saw a salon offering it.
Well wudu aside, I've had both acrylic and solar nails in my working days. Had a silk wrap once too. Silk wraps are a thin layer of silk that is glued to your own nail with "super glue". I saw no real difference between "solar" or acrylic nails. They super-glue a nail-tip onto your own nail to make it long and then paint a thin layer of paste on top of that. The paste hardens like glass. Then the paint to make it pretty. The paint lasts and lasts on these nails. The only thing to really be careful of is that you can sometimes get an air pocket under the pasted nail which can allow a fungus to grow. (You would see little brown spots that look like bruises if this happens.) In that case, have them removed!!! Most salons will just ignore it and give you a new manicure but DONT DO it! You can lose the whole nail. Better to do something like this for a short-term kind of thing,,,like if you cant grow your nails, do it for wedding/homeymoon and then take them off.
