ok so mama is getting on in years. I love to eat and have always amazed people at how I can “put it away” and remain size 6. Now that I’m done with kids and getting on in my years, all of a sudden I’ve put on 17 pounds!! And I cant get rid of it!! My metabolism used to work at lightning speed and I could drop 5 pounds in a week. I started working out recently and I’m a hurtin with that…havent given up, I’m keeping at it and I’m also cutting back a bit on my intake and eating more salads and less cheese, meat and chips
but heck man…aging sux man. Gone are the days that I can eat a 16 ounce steak, baked potato with sour cream and butter, broccoli with cheese sauce…and still have room for a choc sundae. 17 pounds man. and its really sticking. Words of wisdom or even just plain encouragement would be warmly appreciated.

Honey! don't worry! being sad won't solve your problems! Okay, first I'm not a mom, I'm a college student so take whatver I say with a grain of salt...what I'm going to tell you is what i've observed from how my mom and my aunts handle it....
My mom in her 30s used to be as thin as a toothpick after having 5 kids! ANd she DID NOT have that body type originally! This is what she did...She bought a treadmill and ran on it everyday!! EVERY DAY!!! whether it was 1 mile or 10 mile she would do it every single day!! She cut out all junk food-- this is hard-- but once you do it it's become second nature. THe only time she ate dessert was when she was at some dawat! She belived in gaps- three meals, nothing in the middle. just chai w/o sugar! And that's how she maintained her weight all her 30s! My aunts naturally have a more "nazook" body type so it was a bit easier for them- but they follow the same regiemn more or less.
She didn't do all these thing in ONE DAY! i suggest you start with treadmill...after a couple weeks eat three healthy meals without anything in the middle, after a month cut out some unhealthy stuff, etch...BUT NEVER SKIP A DAY ON A TREADMILL> this is so important-- because when you run, you think about all the calories you worked so hard to burn, and then suddenly just eating that donut doesn't seems worth it!
Also ALWAYS have ~ 0 cal foods stalked in your fridge- like lettuce, celery, carrots, tomatoes, so that if you get an urge to eat a bag of cheetos just quickly grab some lettuce and stick it your mouth to quench your hunger for those evil cheetos! That helps too!

Mama - I am there with you sister! If I exercised as much as I do now in my 20s - I would have looked better than all of hollywood combined :) After so much effort I have only lost 5 pounds since Jan!!!
Seriously - metabolism does slow down. Take Gulab Jamun's advice and don't worry about the scale. Start doing 30 minutes cardio and it will come off.
If you really really want to change your body - Get Jillian Micheals (the trainer from the biggest loser) 30 day shread. I will warn you - you will cry after the first day.

whew! I have refused to give up, have been working out with free-weights and once I get a bit of muscle back on me I will start cardio exercises. Still eating "better" :( missing my steaks and baked potatos with sour cream n butter lol! less potato chips, more carrot stix and celery stix. No loss of weight yet but its actually nice to feel muscles coming back. The scale is very depressing - I used to drop weight almost at will and now I actually gotta work at it. But I guess if this didnt happen, I'd not be working out and all so in the end I guess it will all work out for the better.

mama! you can still have those steaks and eat them!! just increase your cardio activity.... life is too short and if you want that baked potato, i say eat it :)
I eat freely, but always without fail work out evey day (even if it's only 30 mins), be it pilates, yoga, cardio, combat/boxing, outdoor running etc...
It also helps if you have a partner who motivates you: Most mornings/evenings my hubby and I work out together (home gym cos we can't leave the kids :))
Extra point - i box with my hubby, so you can really release all that tension, and not get shouted at for hitting him too hard, as you're sparring after all :CareBear:
this is the 3rd week for my exercise and yeah I AGREE the scales r very depressive...i have lost only 5 pounds till now and its my hubby who bucks me up everytime..so no problem lets c...i have already quitted all junk but weekend is an exception..excuse me no junk even on weekends but only healthy dine out..yeah believe me:)... anyway even bcz of weekend treats...i have not gained any pound ..the scale is still so persisted:-/
