Assalamualaikum. I want to share my health problem. I suffers from very bad acid reflux after my baby was born five months ago. My symptoms are feeling burning in the stomach and oesophagus. The one thing which bothers me a lot is stomach pain and it is a very sharp pain which starts suddenly in the upper abdomen and lasts for sometime. My other symptoms are bloating, burping occasionally and feeling very windy. I cut off all the citric food in my diet. It gets worse when I eat any citric food. Doctors diagnosed it acid reflux.i was give omelet sole but it didn’t help much. It’s worse at night and sometimes in the morning I feel very bloated. Anyone has any advice or suffering from the same problem. Please share
Re: Acid reflux
Hi i would return to your doctor someone close to me had similar symptoms and turned out to be stomach cancer. Ask the doctor to do an endoscopy on you; inshallah its nothing major but you need to rule out the serious causes.
Re: Acid reflux
OP, my symptoms were similar to yours so my doctor suggested an endoscopy and colonoscopy.. During my endoscopy the dr took a sample of tissue so he could test for Crohns etc. Turned out it was a hernia though (v.uncommon in people our age)..
Re: Acid reflux
InshaAllah it won't be serious. I will ask my doc to do further tests like endoscopy etc. problem is in UK the docs won't send you for these tests straight away. They want to try every medicine and if it doesn't help then they refer you to specialist. That's not a right way. You have to wait a lot. May Allah protect us from all the fatal diseases(Ameen)

Walaikumussalam Warahamtullah
Ameen sum Ameen
May Allah help you and cure your problem Ameen
Few tips from my side..
Don't eat food very late or just before sleeping. Eat food before three to four hours before sleeping. Avoid spicy or oily food
Try a glass of rooh afza at that time it might reduce your acid.
And elevate your head about 6 inches when sleeping.
In pakistan mucaine syrup really helps Alhamdulilah for acid reflux.
Re: Acid reflux
jazakaAllah for your tips. Some of them I am already doing and some I will try.
Re: Acid reflux
Acid reflux presentation is very common - commonest cause is Gastritis(acid reflux typically elevated at night so mainly nocturnal symptoms) - a condition requiring a Proton Pump Inhibitor(PPI) - usually in twice a day doses (Nexium -esomeprazole is available over the counter in many countries including UK) for atleast 6 weeks. In severe cases you can add Gaviscon before food three times.
Now to the endoscopy question - an endoscopy is indicated if any red flag symptoms or failure of PPI treatment.
Red flags are swallowing difficulty, unintentional weight loss, loss of appetite, atypical abdominal pain. The symptoms you discussed is typical or reflux and irritable bowel, so Gaviscon on top of PPI will help. hope you have a symptom- free ramazan.
Re: Acid reflux
Same prob here hun, I have an endoscopy for Monday. Scarred as hell. Scarred of what kind of results I could have. May Allah swt protect us from diseases. Ameen !
The thing that actually worked for me was boiling 1tbsp saunf in 2 cups of water for 5 min. Let it cool down and drink it the whole day. I did that once, no acid reflux for 5-7 days Alhamdulillah.
Re: Acid reflux
You don't need an endoscopy and you dont have to suffer. Take pariet or pantocid, reflux will be thing of the past.
Re: Acid reflux
Jazakallah everyone for discussing on this topic. I just want to mention that the thing which really bothers me due to this problem is my stomach pain which is very severe and starts suddenly and lasts for different periods of time. It ends suddenly too. I asked my doc and she said that it is related with acid reflux that is due to irritation of stomach lining and also the pain goes on right side and back too. My blood tests and stool test were clear Alhamdulilah. Now the doc referred me for the ultrasound first and then to specialist. I took omeperazole for 2 months. It didn't help much but when I stopped taking after 2 months the rebound effect was very painful for next six weeks. That's why I am scared to take any antacid.
Re: Acid reflux
Sidra, May Allah make it easy for you. InshaAllah everything will be alright.
Re: Acid reflux
I'm not sure what you mean by rebound effect?
The type of pain your describing could be biliary colic/ gall stones versus peptic ulcer disease. If the ultrasound doesn't reveal much, get a referal for gastroenterology for evaluation and endoscopy.
Re: Acid reflux
.
Re: Acid reflux
Ultrasound will be helpful in looking at pancreas and hepato-biliary tract however if blood tests (including Serum Amylase and Liver Function Tests) are OK then it might not show much. Next steps are to do H pylori serology tests but this can be done with endoscopy. Again the need for endoscopy is based on presence of Red Flag symptoms or persistent failure of High Dose PPI.
I take it you are based in UK - official line of management is explained by this NHS website -
Re: Acid reflux
Alhamdulilah my blood tests are fine. They checked H pylori in blood that was also negative. My GP says that they will do ultrasound to check my kidneys only.
Sehar, the rebound effect means that you will get more acid than before.
What I could think is that this problem might have started due to NSAIDS. I have to take ibuprofen after my baby's birth to reduce pain. I also took some strong pain killers in hospital but this all was taken for two weeks. Or it could be due to sleepless nights and irregular eating routines. Now I eat everything on time. May Allah cure this (Ameen). Also may Allah cure all who are ill. (Ameen)
