Re: Accutane and acne

try swiss apricot srub(medicated one)… i tried it and worked wonders for me.. its really good..even clears marks…

Depends on factors such as your health, age. It affects your cholestrol metabolism, so you might need to take LFT's (liver function tests) before and after taking the medication. I've used it twice so far. It worked better when I was young. I had no sideffects the first time.

It can affect you psychologically, some people experience mood swings, mild to severe depression. In my case, the second time, it gave me mild depression and short temper.

BTW, it works.

WA...

I know a girl who took accutane and it worked wonders for her.. but i know that there are some rather serious side effects, so u really have to think well before you go for it.

i think she took it for three months, but as i didn't see my friend while she was taking the medication, i dn't know how she was affected by it... anyway, here is some information about the product and its side-effects:

**

Accutane can cause severe birth defects in babies of women who take it while they are pregnant, even if they take Accutane for only a short time. There is an extremely high risk that your baby will be deformed or will die if you are pregnant while taking Accutane. Taking Accutane also increases the chance of miscarriage and premature births.

Mental problems and suicide. Some patients, while taking Accutane or soon after stopping Accutane, have become depressed or developed other serious mental problems. Symptoms of these problems include sad, "anxious" or empty mood, irritability, anger, loss of pleasure or interest in social or sports activities, sleeping too much or too little, changes in weight or appetite, school or work performance going down, or trouble concentrating. Some patients taking Accutane have had thoughts about hurting themselves or putting an end to their own lives (suicidal thoughts). Some people tried to end their own lives. And some people have ended their own lives. There were reports that some of these people did not appear depressed. No one knows if Accutane caused these behaviors or if they would have happened even if the person did not take Accutane.**

dont use it unless your acne is really severe. my friend used it and although it helped it really dried out her skin and her lips were always chapped. your skin becomes so sensitive. she once waxed her upperlip and the whole layer of skin came off and she went around with a red and blue upper lip for weeks.

Yaar I have had acne for quite a long time..on and off. I am tired of taking antibiotics and they dont work well anymore. So, the doctor has been suggesting this for like 3 yrs now and ihave finallly decided to take it before my skin gets wayyy worse. I am actually getting cystic acne...something i havent had in a few years. So wish me good luck I guess :)

em, i shall have to pm you for the advice im about to impart :-)

I actually took it for 4-5 months and it has worked wonder for me, I have been off it for 2 years and the acne has not returned ocassionally i'll get a pimple or two but nothing major. Its good but you have to be really careful and follow your doctor's advice carefully. Also you cannot take it if you are pregnant or plan on having a baby until six months after or atleast one year after.

I am taking it right now. Started about a couple weeks ago. I noticed a huge difference the very first week ALhamdulillah. I really hope this works for me now, and the darn acne stays away for good. Except dry skin, eyes and lips, I feel just fine ALhamdulillah. Have to use loads of chapstick all the time which is ofcourse all fine as long as my face stays clear.

 Ira

yaar what abt the sideeffects tho? I know how u feel when something helps ur skin u just wana use it and not care abt side effects, i’m like that too…but i would say yaar take care aur dont use it for too long without consulting properly with docs and speaking to others who used it…

good to know its helping u tho

I took Roaccutane for about 6 months and it really worked. My skin was really dry at the beginning of treatment but it settled down quite soon and the acne hasnt returned as bahubegum said apart from the odd pimple. No other side effects for me apart from dry skin which wasnt a major prob cos I had really oily skin and its not half as oily as it used to be. I took it about a couple of years ago.:k:

irem,
well the side effects are majorly the dry skin, lips eyes etc. I am not supposed to wear contacts since they might scratch my cornea. Also, it might effect your liver and if you get pregnant, the baby could be seriously deformed. Becasue of this, the doctor monitors your progress very closely. You can only get one month prescription at a time and before he prescribes it again, he will do tests for liver function etc to make sure everything is okay. I know it sounds a little shaky but the doctor does monitor everything closely :)

Not a good idea, skin problems usually occur at a certain age then tend to go away. Dont mess with accutane, you dont know what side effects it could have in the future

When you have had acne for 11 years and nothing seems to work, its kinda hard to just sit and wait some more for it to go away :(

A friend of mine took it for a while and then he got off it. His acne was gone but there are a few sideeffects. He sleeps once every few nights and then only for a short while. He eats little, goes only on water for days.
