I agree. I have an Uncle who very tactfully said (in a crowded room full of relatives) “Why don’t you teach your daughter Urdu? Isko Urdu bilkul nay athi, isko sikana chiya, zaroor sikow isko. Upni culture ka putha hona chiya.” He was saying it like I had committed some great sin that he had to correct. Inside I was thinking of all the Urdu speaking people I know who know absolutely nothing about Islam. What use is that language to them? I want my kids to be good Muslims, even English speaking Muslims.
It’s too complicated to go into this White Man is viewed as superior stuff to explain views on culture. Naughty just do your hair the way you want and don’t worry about what anyone says.
