Accents!!

Going off of the blog I posted a few days ago about accents, I thought it would be fun and convenient to share our accents or mimic an accent on here for everyone to enjoy! :yahoo:

Say at least 10 or more of these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Theater, Iron, Caramel, Water, Sure, Data, Crayon, Pecan, Again, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Caught, Aluminum, Envelope, Quarter, Corner, & Mirror.
(add in any other word you’ve been told, or that you think, that you say differently)

Say a phrase or slang that is specific to where you live.
For example: Soda/ Pop/ Cola, Washroom/ Restroom/ Bathroom, Ya’ll/ You(s) guys… etc.
If it’s really different, explain what your phrase or slang means.

Mimic an accent.
Remember to mention which accent you’re mimicking.

Say: “Sawaiyan”
Translate: “Red”, “Orange”, “Yellow”, “Green”, “Blue”, “Purple” (in your language…not english!! :ASA: )
Translate: Pot/ Pan
Translate: Fritters
Translate: Brother-In-Law****

How about adding Urdu to the mix. People have different Urdu accents.

I never realized how ignorant the Boston accent and the slang really sounded… :sid:
I actually looked up some phrases and I was** shocked** that some of these things are called anything other than what I called them

I’m just getting over a cold so don’t make fun of my voice :crying:

9 - Turn Signal - Blinker
10 - To run away quickly - Book it
11 - Sprinkles for Ice Cream - Jimmies
12 - Type of house - Three Decker
12 - Sucks or is ugly - Beat
13 - Turn while driving - Bang
14 - Right margin/ shoulder on highway - Breakdown Lane
15 - Convenient store - Cumbies (Cumberland Farms)
16 - Police Car - Cruiser
17 - Idiot - Ijjit
18 - Very, a lot - Wicked or Mad (Wicket Smaht = very smart)
19 - Something that’s really awesome - Wicked Pissa
20 - A female who is a drug addict (among other things) - Skeezer

Can’t think of any slang specific to Karachi, we borrow ours from the actual English speakers.
