ACCA or ACA

So I am aware that ACCA is much easier to do then ACA …

But which one has better work prospects and opportunities?

Re: ACCA or ACA

In Pakistan I believe ACA has better prospects but all round the world ACCA should have better acceptance. Also ACCA qualified get pretty good exemptions in ACA and they just need to pass 3-4 papers to get ACA qualification then and I assume that those 3-4 papers must be the toughest to pass. Both follow IAS (International Accounting Standards) and I believe difference comes when it comes to law we in Pakistan follow Company Ordinance 1984 and UK must be having it's own law , either way Pakistan's law is never too different from UK's Law.

Student with A levels background should go for ACCA in my opinion and if they have done Accounting and other relevant subjects they will get exemptions too.

If I am correct they both need to go through 4 years of articles ship and that is where they gain most experience.

Re: ACCA or ACA

^3 years.

ACA in Pakistan has better acceptance, although ACCA is slowly starting to gain recognition. From what I've observed in the Middle East, ACAs, ACCAs, CPAs are all treated pretty much the same, the same opportunities are open to people with these qualifications. Personally I chose ACCA because I was finding it hard to find a training contract in the UK which you need for ACA, and ACCA in that respect gives you flexibility because you don't have to have a training contract and there is no restriction on when you attempt your exams. And like diamond321 mentioned once you've completed ACCA I believe there are around three exams for the ACA (from ICAEW). If you have been an ACCA member for five years you can apply for ICAEW membership based on that (without any exams).

Re: ACCA or ACA

ICAP has pretty rigid policies (I am not calling them wrong but rigid) first it was BAC then FTFC then Module system was introduced I don't know about the current system but in ACCA infact in most of the UK based programmes I have seen there is alot of flexibility. But one thing we can not ignore is cost factor ACA can be extremely economical as compared to ACCA so not everyone can afford to do ACCA.

Re: ACCA or ACA

The question is about Pakistan or Uk??

Re: ACCA or ACA

good question ! I assume it is about Pakistan because in UK you don't have ACA :)

Re: ACCA or ACA

may be u r right :bummer:

Re: ACCA or ACA

We do have ACA in UK and its much recognised in the world than ACCA :)

Thanks for starting this topic CB, I am starting ACCA by september InshAllah after I submit my transcript for excemptions

Re: ACCA or ACA

still a may be? :vivo:

on topic…i only know about Pakistan…

ACA will always be regarded superior to ACCA…due to it being local and with extensive knowledge of local laws etc…

Re: ACCA or ACA

Yeah, the modules are much more relevant to local corporate laws and taxation. Plus only an ACA can sign off an audit in Pakistan.

Good luck with that, I just completed it this February. Heard the syllabus will be changing from June onwards.

Re: ACCA or ACA

^ Congrats!! One of my friend completed in February aswell, Which training provider did you pick? I am thinking about Kaplan or BPP...Which one would you reccommend ?

Re: ACCA or ACA

I did it entirely through self study since I was working as well. However I used Kaplan's course material which I thought was very concise. BPP is a lot more detailed so it's useful if you're having trouble understanding something.

Re: ACCA or ACA

I have always found Kaplan better but BPP is also good :k:
