I think the word “Shaheed” is the one most abused in Pakistani media.
Everyone who is killed or murdered for any reason is called shaheed. specially if victim belongs to politics.
This word has a pure religious background to my knowledge but is widely used now in irrelevant reference.
Take for example,
Zulfikar Bhutto Shaheed,Murtaza Bhutto shaheed, Hakim Saeed Shaheed, Ziaul Haq Shaheed, MQM worker shaheeds, PPP worker shaheed, All Afghans shaheeds killing each other muslin afghans. Iranians and Iraqis Muslim shaheeds in their war.
and the list goes on.
What a great way to go straight to jannah!
Belief is not what mind possesses, it is what possesses the mind!
as we are discussing this under the naats thread...would you plz give some background info on the conditions of a shaheed....his afterlife..and all..any info would do.

X , the topic under naats is somewhat different. There you are discussing about dead people interacting with living persons. Here my question was use of word shaheed being used irrelevantly.
To my limited knowledge of Islam. Shaheed is considered a muslim who dies purely for the sake of Islam, fighting for the Islam(not necessarily in a war) and for the cause of Islam. He/She is promised to have a high place in Jannat.
Shaheeds are also considered to be alive but living people have limited knowledge to understand it. Living people have no way to interact with shaeeds and they(shaheeds) themselves have no ability to interact or benefit living people.
Belief is not what mind possesses, it is what possesses the mind!
thank you. Those lines are important. I want the people who don’t believe in those lines to prove by quran or sunnah taht these shahadah are in any way beneficial to those living on earth.
btw, sorry to divert the topic a bit, but i kinda needed that
oh adn as far as ur argument, if we call someone 'shaheed' (ie: Hakeem Mohammad Saeed Shaheed) i don't think that just by adding that prefix , someone gets a place in jannah. It is upto Allah to decide....
i don't see any harm in it though. I mean, it doesn't change anyone's status in the afterlife.
The status of "shaheed" has been defined differently in different places.
The most common definition is as mentioned above, of a muslim who gives his life while fighting in the path of Allah SWT against infidelity, suppression and kufr.
A muslim who dies while earning bread and butter for his family (via halal ways) is also a shaheed.
A muslim who dies while performing salat is a shaheed.
A rounded definition is that any Muslim who dies while performing an act for the sole pleasure of Allah SWT, is a shaheed. Shaheed is a derivative of shahadat, and shahadat means bearing witness. In Islamic terms, shahadat means bearing witness to the oneness of Allah SWT. Accordingly, any muslim who dies in such a state, is a shaheed.
Prophet SAW was known to have said that a person is lifted up on the day of judgement the exact way he died in this world. Meaning, if a person dies while stealing, he will be lifted as a thief. If he dies while praying, he will be lifted as a devotee. And when a person dies in a state where his shahadat to the oneness of Allah SWT is genuine, he is lifted as a shaheed.
