Degas: Well said… I will rather follow Rasoolulah :saw: than anyone else who contradict to his:saw: teachings!
Another interesting history regarding Maududi & his followers is that in the 60s Maududi fervently apposed any armed struggle in Kashmir. When Ayub's government officially denied being part of the guerrilla attacks in Kashmir, Maududi gave the Fatwa that as the government does not sanction any such fighting all those fighters in Kashmir are not Mujahideen & their death will be that of a Kafir. He openly campaigned on this Fatwa & was later jailed by Ayub for civil disorder. But today we see that his party not only indorse every kind of arm struggle that goes on in Kashmir, but many off shoots (in ideological terms) of the party are actively involved in the struggle.
Continuing on with his paradox; Maududi was not a big fan of APWA (All-Pakistan Women Association) which was run by Begum Liaquat Ali Khan, nor of women in Politics. His official Fatwa at that time was that no women can be head of state, which was also indorsed by all other religious political parties & ullema. But when Fatima Jinnah decided to run against Ayub and had a good momentum as far as public support is concerned, Maududi changed his Fatwa that "under extra ordinary circumstance" a women can be head of state. He obviously thought Fatima Jinnah would win & he favored her over Ayub. On the other hand Ayub gave the rest of the 'ullema' some concessions & based on their decree camphined aganist Madar-e-Millat that she is not deserving to be a leader. And it shows how religion has been constantly used by political forces, popular & religious alike, in Pakistan, to further their own goals and justify contradictory positions.
The principle grievance against Maududi is that he criticised the actions of certain Sahabah after the death of the Prophet (SAWS).
His detractors said that any form of criticism of the sahabah was an insult to them and thus sinful.
Maududi never retracted his writings, but defended them, claiming that it is possible to be critical of someone without insulting them in any way.
For example, is saying "So-and-so made the mistake of doing..." nothing but simple criticism of someone's historical deeds, or is it an insult to them?

Not true at all. Even as Maududi supported Fatima Jinnah's campaign, he re-iterated that Islam does not allow a woman to be head of state.
However, he pointed out that Islam is a pragmatic faith and that when faced with a choice of two evils, the lesser should be followed.
Ayub Khan had done much to attempt to secularise Pakistan *bear in mind that it was Ayub Khan who had the gall to take the word "Islamic" out of "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan".
Maududi proposed that since Ayub Khan would be much more harmful to the Islamic identity of Pakistan than Fatima Jinnah was, Muslims should back Fatima Jinnah, with having a woman leader being less of an evil than having a continuance of a secular-minded dictatorship.
Incidentally, it was under Ayub Khan that Maududi was sentenced to death - such was the passion of Maududi's opposition to Ayub Khan.
Not true at all.
Humm ... you just said what I did, but in support of Maududi. It's just playing with words. "Under extra ordinary circumstance" or "lesser of the two evils" or "It's ok she can be leader ... for a little while" .. same thing!

assalamo laikum......
Moulana moudodi is still considerd great aalim in indo/pak..........ulemasspecially deobandi ulema are against him because of his inappropriate words against prophets and sahabh.......
which are not true at all..........
as i have the book khilafat aur malukiat and others of his books..............
read the following passages to decide ur self......
TARJUMAN E QURAN.......
"Mosa alihissalam ki misal us juldbaz fateh ki se hay joiqtidar ka istihkam kartay hoa march karta hoa chala jae.....
another qoute...about hadrat yousaf alihissalam
"ye mehaz finance minisster kay mansab ka mutalba na tha jaisa kay baaz log sumujhtay hain...ye dictatorship ka dawa tha jis ky natejay main yousaf alihaysalam ko wahi position hasil hoi jo italy main massolini ko hasil hay"

I have not read this book (or any of his books) but I have read newspaper articles re-printed in recent years, and the way he addresses prophets and other revered personalities is extremely odd. He talks about them as if they are his old *kirayadaar. One should deploy a lot of respect when talking about messangers of Allah Ta'llah. This is just no way to talk about them, especially when the author is a parha likha muslim scholar.

true ...and thats why ulema dont like some experts of his writings ....and the reason ulema give about his some time inappropriate writings is that he was aself taught man...never attended a school....he childhoood friends were not of good character...
like u will never go to a doctor who has not attended any school and have became doctor just by reading books at home.......
^
might require a lot of brilliance to get to that point of scholarly height without attending a school....
pakistan has yet not produced a scholar like maududi....
perhaps no one has matched him in his ilm after him yet in the whole world....
i wish we cud have another maududi in this time....
:topic: …whats the meaning of MAudodi…never heard that name befor him …or after him…
All these objections against Maududi are being brought against him AFTER he critized certain celebrated sahabahs of the ahl-sunnah and umm momineen.
Prior to this, there was never any objection to his eductaion level or what friends he kept in childhood.
I am sure that most on this board do not have anywhere the ilm that Maududi possesed on Islamic history. Why don't you do yourselves a favor and read what he says and maybe, just maybe, you will be enlightened with some knowledge, FROM YOUR OWN SUNNI SCHOLAR THIS TIME, as to what Muwayah, Aisha, Abu baker, and certain companions actually were - how they decieved and dis-obeyed the holy prophet (pbuh) and his holy ahl-bait (as).
All this from one of the most celebrated SUNNI scholar of our time!
Praise be to Allah (swt) who enlightened Maududi before his death.

Re: Abu Ala Syed al-Maududi
Most people cant handle the truth and that is the story of Maulana Maududi. He wrote what majority of the people would rather not read, i.e. REALITY. He exposed the facts on Muawiyah, Aisha, and the other sahabahs and instantly found himself in the wrong books of the other people including his own fellow ulema friends.
He faced wave after wave of criticism. He wrote answer to his critics which got published in the later versions of the same controversial book, Khilafat o Malookiat. In the reply to his critics he told them to wake up to the reality and that turning a blind eye to the history will harm nobody but the ignorant people themselves.
