Abs/Oblique excercises

first of all…keep in mind that ab exercises wont spot reduce fat from your belly but will strengthen it. If you are looking to lose belly fat you must do a total body workout regimen which includes a combination of cardio and strength training.

In terms of ab exercises:

the exercise ballworks wonders. It targets your core. you can purchase this ball from any sporting good store. you can also purchase a video that shows you what exercises to do on them. an effective on is the exercise ball crunch.

the captains chair (i think they call it this…correct me if I am wrong someone) is really effective for the abs and obliques. It can be found in most gyms. It’s the one you where you grip the handles and contract your abs to raise legs and knees towards your chest. you know what im talking about? hope that made sense.

**reverse crunch.

vertical crunch

planks

**this is all I can come up with now.

Please share some more ab/oblique exercises.

I like doing the bicycle crunch. It really works out your obliques and is definitely more effective if you combine it with cardio ( like running) and weight lifting.

You lie down with your knees up and your arms behind your head. Bring your right elbow to your left knee. Bring your left elbow to your right knee. It’s hard to describe, but i’ve included a youtube link below that demonstrates it.

^ yes! that is a good one. how could i forget. : )

AE, ever wondered how that name came into being? :hehe:

Yep, its awesome and targets those abs really well!

Re: Abs/Oblique excercises

AE how much time should one spend on abs/obliques as compared to cardio? For me its mostly cardio (1:30) and then 20 minutes or dedicated to abs. Should I be evening it up a little?

I spend about 15 minz on abs and obliques every day. I guess it would depend on what you are trying to achieve. not sure if there is a set rule on how long you should spend on it.
