As-Salam-o-Alycum,
Hadit: Sunnan Abu Dawod - Book Sacrifice (Kitab Al-Dahaya)
2807 Narrated Nubayshah: The Prophet said: We forbade you to eat their meat for more than three days in order that you might have abundance; now Allah has produced abundance, so you may eat, store up and seek reward. Beware, these days are days of eating, drinking and remembrance of Allah, Most High.
Hadit: Sahih Muslim - The Book of Sacrifices (Kitab Al-Adahi)
4856 Abdullah b. Waqid reported: Allah’s Messenger forbade (people) to eat the flesh of sacrificed animals beyond three days. Abdullah b. Abu Bakr said, I made a mention of that to 'Amra, whereupon she said: He has told the truth, for I heard 'A’isha say: The poor among the people of the desert come (to the towns) on the occasion of Id al-Adha during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger . Upon this Allah’s Messenger said: Retain with you (the flesh) sufficing for three (days), and whatever is left out of that give in charity. After this. they (the Muslims) said: Allah’s Messenger, the people make waterskins with the (hides) of their sacrificed animals and they melt fat out of them. Thereupon he said. What the then? They said: You forbade (us) to eat the flesh of sacrificial animals beyond threoq (days), whereupon he said: I forbade you for those (poor persons) who flocked (to the towns on this occasion for getting meat) but now when (this situation has improved) you may eat, preserve and give -in charity.
4861 Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported Allah’s Messenger having said: O people of Medina, do not eat the flesh of sacrificed animals beyond three days. Ibn al-Muthanni said: Three days. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) complained to the Messenger of Allah that they had children and servants of theirs (to feed), whereupon he said: Eat, and feed others, and store, and make it a provision of food.
Hadit: Malik’s Muwatta - Book Sacrificial Animals
23.5.10 Yahya related to me from Malik from Umara ibn Yasar that Ata ibn Yasar told him that Abu Ayyub al-Ansari had told him, “We used to sacrifice one sheep, and a man sacrificed for himself and his family. Then later on people began to compete with each other and it became boasting.” Malik said, “The best that I have heard about a single camel, cow or sheep, is that a man should sacrifice a camel for himself and his family. He sacrifices a cow or sheep which he owns for his family, and shares with them in it. It is disapproved for a group of people to buy a camel, cow or sheep, to share for the ritual and sacrifices, each man giving a share of its price, and taking a share of its meat. We have heard the tradition that people do not share in the ritual. However, it may be that the people of one household can share.”
23.4.7 Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr that Abdullah ibn Waqid said, “The Messengerof Allah , forbade eating the meat from sacrificial animals after three days.” Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr said, "I mentioned that to Amra bint Abd ar-Rahman, and she affirmed that he had spoken the truth as she had heard A’isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'Some people from the desert came at the time of the sacrifice in the time of the Messenger of Allah, so the Messenger of Allah :saw2, said, ‘Store up for three days, and give what is left over as sadaqa.’ " She said that afterwards some one said to the Messenger of Allah , that people had been accustomed to make use of their sacrificial animals, melting the fat and curing the skins. The Messenger of Allah , said, “What about that?” They said, “You have forbidden the meat of sacrificial animals after three days.” The Messenger of Allah him peace, said, “I only forbade you for the sake of the people who were coming to you. Eat, give sadaqa and store up.” By these people, he meant the poor people who were coming to Madina.
23.4.8 Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that Abu Said alKhudri returned from a journey and his family gave him some meat. He asked whether it was meat from the sacrifice. They replied that it was. Abu Said said, “Didn’t the Messenger of Allah , forbid that?” They said, “There has been a new command from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, since you went away.” Abu Said went out and made enquiries about it and was told that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had said,“I forbade you before to eat meat of the sacrifice after three days, but now eat, give sadaqa and store up. I forbade you before to make nabidh (by soaking raisins or dates in water), but now make nabidh, but remember every intoxicant is haram .I forbade you to visit graves, but now visit them, and do not use bad language.”
Many peoples thinks its forbidden to eat/store meet more than 3 days. According to the above various hadiths, its allowed to eat/store meet. Peoples also divide the meats into 3 categories 1) for itself 2) for neighbours and 3) for needy peoples.
I read various hadith in this regard but i couldn’t find anywhere its written that u can divide sacrfice meet into three categories.
You are welcome to discuss/enlighten more details/views.
Re: About Sacrificial
Thankyou for sharing above ! I have heard that the meat is to divided into 3 equal portions 1) yourself 2) for relatives 3) for needy.
I don't have any proof of above but that is what has been told and followed for years now.
