a common question regarding prayers is that why three prayers (fajar, maghreb and ishaa) have the Quran recited aloud while the other two (zuhr and asar) have it recited silently…
so whats the reason???

sunnah?
Also because zuhr and asar are prayed in the middle of work day, hence they are kept quiet.

because it is commanded so
^^ where??
I remember the Qur'an specifically mentioning prayres are to be recited in a moderate tone.. "neither too loud, nor too low".. What overrules the Qur'an??
the place where u dun believe
Ahaadeeth and Sunnah as that’s the way Rasoolulah :saw: showed and every one follows till this day ![]()
and nothing is over ruling quran…
^^ How come?
Once Qur'an has ruled on an issue how can u add exceptions to it unless they r mentioned in the Qur'an too??
because the same Quran says to follow Muhammad :saw:
^^ why have a Qur'an in the first place if everyone was to follow different overriding rulings given by the Prophet.. and why didn't the Prophet follow the Qur'an and started giving his own commands different from the Qur'an to confuse everyone??

please, quote from quran where it says about what u are saying and then I will tell u what i mean.
thats not an order related to prayer as in salaat or namaaz…
that is when making duaa…
why cant u get the difference ![]()
and why r there no good reasons for it????
its sunnah but there must be a reason....
Faiasl, zuhr is usually lunch time and asar is usually seen as "after" the work day, mostly sleeping time....

mughal bhai: I thought a command in it of itself is a good reason
and when we say it's sunnah, wouldn't that suffice the need of a reason as well..
are you looking for any logical reasoning that a human can come up with?
hmm because the word ÈöÕóáÇóÊößó is used..
and I agree .. several places there is indeed a distinction between salat and prayers .. which begs the question.. how did you come up with five salat from the Qur’an???
Perhaps this is taken too literally and the Quran meant in a general sense to follow him. Not to the point of worship and coming up with rules on how to do everthing in life.
Where do you draw the line? Are you going to marry a child? Become a shepard? Not learn to read and write? Are you not permitted to have a male heir?
seminole
I agree that it is not to be taken in as literal a sense ofr everything. otherwise we should not be using cars for transport etc.
however, just an educational point, he was not a shepherd, but a trader. There was another famous man and a great prophet who was a shepherd..come to think of it there were a few right?

salaat has more than one meaning....
and 5 prayers r from hadith not from Quran....
and hey if u dont wish to pray, then stating that 5 prayers r not mentioned in Quran is a very lame excuse....

yes indeed.. but picking and choosing the meaning and applying to a verse is done by people..

it's not about me.. and personally i don't believe deriving my religious practices from the Book of Allah is lame or an excuse.. but you are entitled to your opinion.
Can we keep it on the topic?**

If someone wants to quote a hadith to respond, feel free. If someone wants to argue the whole issue of whether ahadith can be used as a basis of rule-making, open a new thread. Any further posts which are not on the topic will be removed.
